Q: How to set this up when the newer ones do not come with the center ,so how do you align it with needle

I cut mine out with scissors and it never worked as the edges were too rough and caught on the fabric. I would try an Exacto Knife if I could have a do-over. I ended up buying another brand on Amazon called the Quilt in a Day Sew Straight Ruler, which I like lots better. You put this one near the needle, not on the needle plate.

My seam guide was not precut. I understand the new guides are different.

Q: which of the colors is darker and easier to see?

The only color is red as I remember and the red lines are very easy to see on this product.
