This Rice Cooker is Great and easy to use! I am Totally Blind and I can easily cook Ny Family’s Rice in this Rice Cooker by adding Rice with the cup provided and then water. I press the easy to feel cook lever on the bottom Right of Rice Cooker. I press the lever down and the Black & Decker RC 506 starts cooking! Twenty min for two cups and Thirty min for Four cups of Jasmine Rice! It is 👍🏻

This is a cheap rice cooker that comes with a plastic measuring cup and simple plastic rice paddle (good for scooping out the cooked rice without scratching the non-stick coating.) There is a handy "lid hanger" feature, which is nice! You don't have to find someplace to set the lid down when you are filling the pot or scooping out rice. I don't like that the pot is "on" at least low whenever it is plugged in. You really don't want to set some rice cooking and then forget it and run off to play pickleball or something that will keep you away for hours. Your house probably won't burn down but the rice will develop a hard crust on the bottom where all the liquid will eventually cook away, even when the pot is on "low." I (and the included booklet) recommend setting a kitchen timer when the pot is on. This setup works fine, except the steamer basket can't be used while you're cooking rice. I put in one cup of dry rice and two cups of water and tried to fit the steamer basket in but the bottom of the plastic steamer basket was submerged in the water. This is a bummer. Not because I want to steam vegetables while I'm cooking rice, but because I like to use the steamer basket to prevent the little burps and dribbles of rice exhaust that otherwise gets all over wherever the little vent is pointed. All other electric rice cookers I've owned had a steamer basket that sat *above* the rice cooking bowl. This one nestles down *inside* the rice cooking bowl. I'd probably choose a different one just because of this. That said, it makes okay rice, the nonstick coating appears to be intact and so far is non-sticky.

This has been great. It is the perfect size for one or two people. I generally do two meals at a time. i am transient right now and it is small enough to just in my suitcase. I use it for brown rice and quinoa. I've had no issues with the cooker or anything not being cooked properly,. Easy to clean, nothing sticks. I usually set to cook and come back way later and everything is coked and still warm, the warmer works great. I've never really paid any attention to cook time because I always set and forget but I do know it is faster than stove top and I don't have to babysit it.

So this is only my second use in this product. I did notice that a lot of reviews say that the durability is trash if that comes up, I will edit my review but for now it’s exactly what I needed. It’s just me and my son I’m not allowed to eat as much rice so it’s a perfect size. I do wish that I had got the one just a little bit bigger for when I do want to do bigger things of rice but that’s OK. I just wanted to test it out. I do recommend that if you don’t like your rice so mushy to do a half a cup less than it recommends. The shut off feature is precise that switches it to warm after the rice is done cooking. It’s nice and fluffy once I figured out how much water to put to my rice to my liking I mean with any product you have to be careful with it. I’m hoping it doesn’t break because I do like it, but we’ll see what happens and like I said I’ll come back to rewrite my review if anything happens for now it’s a great product and I think it’s a wonderful addition to my little tiny makeshift kitchen.

For a small household this rice cooker does exactly what it promises. One knob, press down to cook, flips up when done, stays warm. That’s it. No learning curve, no complicated settings, no manual to decipher. For two to four people it’s perfectly sized and genuinely convenient. But I’ve owned the exact same Black & Decker 6 cup model in an older version and the difference in build quality is noticeable and frustrating. They took something that worked beautifully and quietly made it worse. The old one had a stainless steel inner pot and heating coils that performed consistently. The newer model runs slightly cooler, which means you’ll need to experiment with less water than the instructions suggest until you find your sweet spot. Minor inconvenience, but worth knowing going in. The bigger issue is the Teflon coated inner pot. I’ve had this since 2025 and it’s already scratched — barely a year of normal use. Once a Teflon pot is scratched it needs to be replaced immediately, and here’s the problem: there are no replacement pots available on Amazon. None. For a product this popular that is simply unacceptable. Black & Decker should offer replacement inner pots with options — stainless steel or Teflon coated — so customers aren’t forced to replace the entire unit over a pot that costs pennies to manufacture. This product has made plenty of money. It deserves better materials and better after-sale support than this.

I decided to try out a rice cooker to see if it was a better way to cook rice than with just a pot on the stove. I wanted just a basic cooker, so I bought this one. It works well if you're just looking for a basic cooker at an inexpensive price. It doesn't have all the features more expensive cookers have, but it still does a nice job with cooking rice. The cleanup afterwards is easy. The only feature that would have made this unit even better would have been a timer, so I just use a kitchen timer. I haven't tried steaming vegetables in it yet, but I think it will do a good job based on my experience with cooking rice.

This little wonder saves me so much time during meal prepping. It's also very simple to use. I follow the instructions and use the measuring cup provided, add the necessary level of water and in less then 20 minutes, I have perfectly cooked rice. I usually add a bit of olive oil and spices to my rice and it always turns out perfect. I use basmati (wash it first). Also very easy to wash. I use the sponge side to wash the inside by hand and avoid scratches. Highly recommended. I've had it on a deal ($30) a few months back.

Why would you sell an item in the UK that doesn't have a usable plug? I've even bought a specific Asia/US/AUS converter but it's a specific plug with one large prong than the other that doesn't even work with that. Why does the product say NOTHING about this in the description. What a waste of time. Can't even review it properly BECAUSE IT CAN'T BE USED

This was purchased as a low cost rice cooker to be used for a single person or a family of 2-3. It cooked 1.5 cups of raw rice in about 45 minutes. The unit goes into a "Keep warm" state automatically after the rice is cooked so you can start it ahead of time. I also own a larger Japanese branded rice cooker that costs about $150 more. This cooker has a few flaws. First. the markings on the rice pot is black on black and extremely difficult to see without shining a strong light directly on it. This is important because the amount of rice used is a critical factor in determining if the cook comes out too mushy or too dry/hard. My Japanese-branded rice cooker has more legible markings. Second, if you leave the rice in the pot on "Warm" for more than an hour, the rice that is in contact with the pot becomes hard and difficult to chew. This does not happen with my more expensive cooker. Lastly, while the rice pot is advertised as non-stick, rice does stick a little bit to it and it becomes harder to clean. Again, my more expensive rice cooker does not have this problem. Overall, given the price point, these are issues one can definitely live with.
