You lose the POE power in the process. It is powered by a UniFi PoE port, drawing around 4W. I've been running this now for a few weeks and it has been very reliable. I've not run a speed test, but I can see the port has sync'd at Gigabit Ethernet speeds. This is so easy to use, you simply plug into the ethernet port of the Pi, and the USB-C power port of the Pi- and then attach your ethernet cable. It springs into life without any trouble.
