Finally, a quality backdraft stopper!
The media could not be loaded. I’ve tried a few backdraft stopping vents and shutters over the last few weeks. All were flimsy, noisy, poorly constructed or damaged in transit. This shutter was everything I was hoping for. We’ve got a fairly powerful fan and it has no problems pushing the sprung loaded flaps. The springs and rubber on the seal ensure the smooth and quiet opening and closing and feel like they’ll stop most excess flapping caused by the wind.No problems with the rubber seal when pushing into our 150mm plastic duct (I did push the rubber seal and not the metal to ensure the seal didn’t come off the housing though).Looks and feels well made - the product photography is refreshingly accurate.Depending on how well this performs, I think I have enough fan pressure to install two of these and create a sort of airlock… but that’s for another day!So, thank you neverest, you’ve made my day!

Excellent product
This item has solved the problem of a freezing cold backdraft in my kitchen. My extractor vent is on an exposed wall on a 4th floor flat- it fits inside a 150mm ducting from a DIY store and it avoids the need for a long ladder. The extractor works well even in the lowest fan setting and it has caused no additional noise on the highest setting - i have a powerful extractor and i had been worried about impedence to flow affecting its performance but this backdraft shutter has not caused any noticeable reduction to flow. It seems better made than plastic alternatives available in uk and i found customer services to be very helpful. It has been in use for 10 months now and even in the strongest gales it does not make annoying noises - perhaps only an occasional flap but the sound is well dampened by a rubber seal.

Good Design But Not Perfect Because It Needs to be tuned to your fan and installation.
This is a nice product and works, but it has its downfalls.Pros:This pushed perfectly inside my 150mm pipe, used a light bit of grease to help it in. (see pics)This stops all draughts has made a huge difference in the temperature, comfort of my cold kichen.Definitely saving money heating bills.Cons:Due to the spring pressure on the flap my Fan 150mm/ 230m3/hr would not open the flap fully, I would say about 30 to 40 degress, See picture. This results in a slightly steamier kitchen when cooking. See pics of fan flaps partially open.Solution/TweaksI disabled the middle spring by flipping arms to other side of flap. The flap opened easier and air flow increased. Problem is when it was windy it flapped about more which was annoying. If installation does not suffer suction from the wind due to a protected location of exhaust grill, this solution would be perfect.I re-attached the spring and bent arms of middle spring to reduce leverage on flap, but still has a bit of resistance. This was alot better in the wind, only occsanional flap in large gusts. See pics. I have not had a big cook to see if Steam situation has got a bit better.I will not be removing the flap, as it must be saving me a fortune on heating. But I might consider fitting a high flow fan to increase to get that flap open a bit more.People cannot really complain that it flaps about or does not open as much, as each benefit has it cons.If you want a closed hole without flapping in wind then your flow will be reduce. If you want better flow, then you will get more flapping in wind.

Good
Good, we placed in entire house , fall a bit in high winds but otherwise seals enough not to have cold air backdraft

Its OK but has gaps along hinge
Installed in ducting in the loft to prevent draughts coming in through ensuite extractor fan, which exits through roofline vent. The flap has a good seal at the edges thanks to the rubber gasket & installs ok, but my only issue with the product is that it has quite big gaps along the hinge which will let in small draughts, which seems a bit of a design defect to me given that its sole purpose is to stop draughts. I installed it anyway as I had been waiting for a week for delivery & given the current windy weather I'm sure it will still have a good impact on drastically reducing draughts. Putting my hand under the extractor fan I can't feel any draughts & it appears to have slightly reduced traffic noise coming through the vent as well. All-in-all if you want a product that just pushes inside your existing ducting then it should do the job & is probably easier than other designs that require the flap to be joined together with the ducting.

Very good
Well built, fits snugly in the 125 mm ducting pipe I bought as well. Like others I found a little silicone grease helped it slide in. The flap is very sensitive and even responded when I just blew on it. Once fitted even on its lowest setting my extractor fan had no problem opening the two flaps. I fitted mine so the axis of the flaps was horizontal allowing the flaps to open from the side rather than top and bottom. Dont know whether it would have made any difference. My vent is on a side wall.Very happy with its performance and quality. Will be buying another for my tumble dryer vent next.

Very Noisy
Despite the rubber ring, this backdraft shutter is very noisy so it’s gone in the bin.Note too that the spring is too strong for the Xpelair C4TS 4"/100mm Simply Silent extractor – which also has a very noisy backdraft shutter (which is why I wanted a scecond one) – even at its more powerful setting.

Has stopped the polar vortex in my kitchen
Had new wall fan fitted and builder messed up the pipe so original plastic back draft did not work. Kitchen was freezing and had to block fan from front until I found this.Fitted the tube from outside easily with a bit of washing up liquid to assist as is a snug fit, as need to be.Fan when on easily opens it and no effect on function of extraction and once fan turns off pings back shut easily, blocking all draft.Kitchen is lovely and warm once again, would definitely recommend.
