Essential Calculus: Early Transcendentals (Stewart's Calculus Series)

If you have taken the full sequence of general calculus and science/engineering courses that use calculus methods, you probably noted the calculus courses covered a lot of material that could be safely omitted if the science courses where the only interest. Most calculus books are written to go along with the lengthy treatment (or maybe the other way around), and I guess that's fine. But pick up one of those monster books (including Stewart's own fantastic standard text) and try to review the essentials for science...and you'll quickly find there's just too much to cover, and a lot of it is tangential for that purpose.That's where this book comes in. This is calculus pared down to just (a bit more than) what's needed for science and engineering. It is great for brushing up on calculus skills needed for these applied classes. I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a book for this purpose.

bought this for my sister and she used it for calculus 2 & 3. got it for $10 gently used from goodwill....basically like new. reference sheet was intact and no writings. was an edition older than the one her courses needed but did the job! she loved the explanations and it saved me about $150!

This book was required for my Calculus II course, and would also be used for Calc I (if I had taken it), as well as Calc III.So far, around 1/3 of the way through the semester, I have found the book to be very helpful. Whenever I had questions about some of the material, I found it was more useful to refer to the book, than my notes. There are 5 tear out reference sheets found in the front/back, which are great for referring back to. Unfortunately, since they are tear-out, this means that if you want them you'll have to buy the book new. It was worth it to me since there were also three classes that would use it.The formatting of the book is excellent, making it easy to see which points are key, and find formula's when you're simply skimming. I highly recommend this book. It loses the 1 star because the reference sheets are tear-out.

So, i thought i was getting the same book my classmates had, to my surprise it wasn't. The isbn matches that of the required book but it isnt the same.Besides being twice as large there was a red corner sticker on the book i received that read "NEW". when i peeled it off the book cover read " This edition is licensed for sale only in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Circulation of this edition outside of these countries is UNAUTHORIZED AND STRICTLY PROHIBITED". UM, so does that mean i just unknowingly broke the law? regardless, i now have to go through the hassle of making sure absolutely EVERYTHING in MY book matches that of my peers because of assignment and for study purposes.

I am about halfway into my university's Calculus I class, and I have to say that this book helps me out very much. My prof has a heavy (russian?) accent and this book is a good supplement to his lecture. The author is almost slightly humorous with how he tries to relate Calculus to real-world applications. I know there are few applications, but this book still helps me to understand the subject in a way i honestly thought i never would

I bought this because I have to take calculus I, II & III so I would be using it a lot. Even renting this book is more expensive than buying this version so it is worth it.

The book arrived in great condition, and within the delivery date window. It is well-written, like any other university calculus textbook. It's concise, to the point, and very detailed. Plus, it's lightweight, so I can carry it to school easily!

This book is in fantastic shape and compared to the price of a new book, let alone the price to rent one, I would take this 'version' any day. No complaints at all, book arrived swiftly and safely. Thanks!
