Excellent -- but be careful
I've had this for almost a year, and adore it except for one thing. I'll get that out of the way, because your mileage really may vary on my one complaint.(The ONLY) Complaint: The upholstery/pet attachment with the spinning wheel died screaming after about 3 uses cleaning the stairs. I'm going to get it repaired or replace it, but I bear the manufacturer NO ill will, because (read on)PROS!This thing has consumed so much cat hair I can't believe our 5 cats have any fur left.I bought this about a few months after a ridiculously chaotic move after reading SO many reviews and asking SO many people.A few months.Do you have ANY idea how much 5 cats can shed in a few NORMAL months on thick carpet, let alone during and after a stressful move? New carpet in a BEDROOM. With SUNBEAMS. Do you have any idea how much DUST erupts from all the boxes as they go INTO that bedroom and get unpacked? Do you know how much cats just AMBLE AROUND when it's bedtime? Or just loll around in the middle of the night, or get the zoomies? And SHED THE WHOLE TIME?But the Kenmore did not complain. It did not falter. It ATTACKED that carpet with ZERO complaint and made the brand-new carpet look brand-new again. POOF.Was it heavy? NOPE. It made me honestly wonder why may parents had an upright vacuum cleaner while I was growing up.It even GOT THE CAT HAIR off my velvet quilt with one of the other attachments, said hello to a kitty under the bed effortlessly because it's unbelievably maneuverable, and got cobwebs I'm WAY too short to get.And watching the cats react to the retractable cord...well, I love my cats, but that's hilarious EVERY time.So that one attachment surrendered on the stairs. FINE. Honestly, it REALLY wouldn't surprise me if that was partially user error pressing too hard because I didn't know you didn't have to. And I am SO pleased with this vacuum. Even if the cats are deeply suspicious.

Cleans Well
Before purchasing this recently, I have/had used a Kenmore Intuition canister vac for 15-20 years. That one went through several repairs near the beginning of its life, but following that, has performed well for many years until a couple months ago. (After getting the new vac, I had the old one repaired. So I now have an upstairs vacuum and a downstairs vacuum.) I have no shortage of dog hair, so my vacuums get a workout.I'm a reader and believer of Consumer Reports Magazine. This new vacuum came in second in their ratings of canister vacuums. A Miele canister vac came in first, but costs right at three times what the Kenmore does. That's a no-brainer to me. That extra ~$800 will pay for a fair number of Kenmore repairs or even replacements.I believe Panasonic makes canister vacuums for Kenmore. My old one and the new one are on three wheels (vs. four). The canister body does not maneuver well. When you pull it with the hose, it seldom goes the direction you intend. I'm used to this after 20 years, but it is a pain in the butt. I can't imagine why Panasonic hasn't changed the wheel arrangement in this many years. It's like they've never tried their own product. The canister body does have some weight to it and is not very quiet, but I think this is probably due to a fairly large and powerful motor. So that's not necessarily a bad thing.I do not care for the new attachment method for the nozzles. They have made sure that you cannot buy knock-off nozzles when the current ones wear out by making them very specific in the way they attach. In addition, the attachment is bulky, so the hose-end/handle will not fit into some tight places that the old one will. I definitely prefer the nozzles and attachment method of the older vacuum more. Miscellaneous: The new vac does not include an upholstery nozzle, which the old one did.The vacuum is powerful, and still includes an LED light on the distal end of the wand. I think that's a great feature for being able to see cobwebs and such things in low-light areas. The carpet head has its own motor and still performs as well or better than my old unit. All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with the new vacuum. For the money, I recommend it.
