Mouth Explosion - beware the pits
The pits are still in these, so be careful while eating. As the description says, the best method is pop one in and suck it until all the "meat" of the prune is removed. It will be salty, and sweet, and sour, and salty, and ...so many things. Though an older Caucasian American, I've previously been exposed to fermented versions of the Japanese prune .... which is absolutely amazing. These are not quite as life-changing, but still very, very good if you want to explore outside the typical American taste pallet. There is no nutrition values listed on the container, nor ingredients. (Removed a star because does not meet typical American safety standards for food descriptions.)1/14/2021 - Additional review. Trying to eat another one after a couple week break had my stomach turning over and I had to throw out that piece. And when I opened the pack again, the scent completely made me sick. Nothing had gone back - I just couldn't handle it. Too American. A pity. Had to throw out the uneaten portion.

It refreshes the mouth and the mind.
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I understand why some reviewers give low ratings. I think the unique flavor of preserved prune is not acceptable and appreciated by everyone. If you eat it for the first time, it might taste a bit strange or even weird. But as a person who has eaten preserved prunes and plums since childhood, I really enjoy its complex taste: sour, sweet, and salty. It is the best snack after a heavy meal, during a family get-together, or when you are starting to feel sleepy behind the wheel of your car.My secret recipe is to make a homemade drink with it. I would add several pieces to my cold sparkling water or soak them in boiled water. Both ways will surprise you!P.S. I ate a third of it when I made the video.

Disgusting, and I normally love prunes
I was really excited to try these because I love prunes and I like sour things. However, these are just a disaster. The salty flavor is off the charts, and I feel like I'm eating a solid chunk of salt when I eat one of these. I can taste a little sour, and the faintest bit of sweet from the prune, but the salt ruins everything. These also are not pitted, so it's not a pleasant experience to have to eat the flesh off the pit, which remains inside each prune. These are bone dry and tiny, and though the product picture shows a large mound of appetizing treats, the entire container is about the size of a tub of moisturizing hand balm, very small. I absolutely hated the taste of these and would not serve them to guests either. Total epic fail in my book.

Salty, hard. Need to gnaw on it to get the flavor and the meat.
OUYANGHENGZHI Leisure Succade Snacks Japanese Preserved Prune Ri Shi Hua Mei 日式话梅 100g/3.5ozThis tasted like the dried plums I used to each when I was a kid in Japan. It’s not sweet, it’s salty and tangy. I think it’s an acquired taste. What confused me is that the product name says it’s prunes, not plums. I got think because it thought they were plums. They taste like plums. But apparently they are prunes. Maybe they got the translation wrong, because I think the Chinese writing also says plum.Either way, this is salty and dry. Don’t buy thinking of American dried apricots and plums. They are not juicy, but dry and hard. You have to kind of keep it in your mouth to get the flavor out and gnaw on it (watch out for the pits).

Odd Taste
Well, this was an odd thing to put in my mouth. Not what I was expecting...I thought the prune would be bit sweet and that it'd be a pitted. It was neither. The taste was a bit salty and very sour. I suspect that it might be the kind of thing that will grow on me. We'll see.Be careful chomping down, because like I said, these are not pitted prunes. Wish they were because they'd be easier to eat.Although the jar came with a paper covering, it was not sealed. That makes me a little nervous. Also, the jar listed no nutritional information, which is not customary in the United States.I like the idea of these because prunes are definitely a nutritious food source, but perhaps something was lost in the translation?

Interesting but not appealing
These Japanese Preserved Prunes are certainly like nothing that I have had before. I found the taste to be sharp and tart with a fruity aftertaste. These prunes have pits in them, which makes eating them an adventure. I do not find that eating these is particularly pleasant. Maybe the health effects are more important. The web page says "The sweet taste of Japanese plum is moderate, with a layer of watermelon powder on the surface, so it will taste a little cool and refreshing, sour and sweet taste." As for the watermelon powder, it appears to be an anti-oxidant. There are almost 300 technical papers to be found on the Internet concerning watermelon powder. Some of them indicate beneficial effects on blood pressure and the colon.

No ingredient label, but these sure do taste like they've been preserved with salt ...
I like plums a lot and was anxious to try these. I was expecting something that was dehydrated, without any additives. There’s nothing on the label to indicate what’s added, nothing whatsoever. What I do know has been added, probably as a preservative of sorts, is salt. It was evident from the first bite there was plenty of it.Another product I tried from this company were preserved plum slices. That did have an ingredients label that listed such things as sugar, citric acid, and salt. Naturally dried, I do believe I would have really enjoyed these. Without any ingredients, I simply can’t recommend them. Watch out because these do have a pit in them.ORIGIN: Guangzhou, China

Salty and sweet
These preserved prunes are an acquired taste. I call them prunes because prune is a dried plum, so it is a more accurate product description. They have a strong flavor that tastes both salty and sweet at the same time. I learned to like these little treats in college because my best friend was Vietnamese, and she introduced me to Asian preserved fruits. The preserved fruits can be eaten as a snack, or they can be rinsed or soaked in water to reduce the saltiness. These prunes have a pit. I like adding them to salads, so I remove the pit and cut into smaller chunks after soaking them in water. They add an interesting, unique flavor to salads.Ali Julia review
