Ignore the number of users in your area that Tile app flashes, they are meaningless.
I bought a total of 5 tiles and the zip strap. I think it's a good concept, though the bluetooth signal for these tiles are small distances. Like for instance, my car has one downstairs but it's out of range. The concept is if you lose it other tile users how comes around can help locate that lost of stolen item. Also, you get these notices stating how many tile users are in your area. I got some around 2100 through 2800 at my home. So I give Tile a call asking them what is an area, a radius or city, etc. They stated that they can't give that information out because it's proprietary. I state that if it's so proprietary, you shouldn't flash it on the app. The numbers are clearly marketing if they don't define an area. For instance, 2100 in San Francisco would be good if you had that many users in a small limited radius, but in Houston where I had to move back to, that would be like how many elephants are in a state. Around 6pm for 90 mins while meeting friends for dinner, I parked the car next to the street during rush hour in a busy area with bumper to bumper and stop lights, etc. seeing if someone will locate it. No one did, so luckily the girl I was having dinner with had a tile so she pinged it for me. At least it works but without knowing what Tile is defining as an area, those silly numbers is like me saying I ate 10 steaks which is a lot but then I inform you that's within a year. But some people in Tile don't use common sense but rather marketing sense.

Excellent so far
Compared to another product I triedthe Tiles are great using a Samsung with Android 8. I had just tried the "Mynt" with replaceable battery and it bordered on useless - very unreliable-and was a waste of my money (I had thrown out the packaging for return). So far I found the app super easy to install and use. No problems yet with any of the four Tiles. The Tiles work in both directions ( they can find your device) and so far reliably. They are small and unobtrusive. Sound is good. I have my work phone hooked up as a Tile as well which is a neat thing about the app.If the phone is password protected and encrypted, it will not load up the app till a password is entered but that is not the apps fault. It will remember the last place your phone was at as will Google. The Tile app runs in the background and is autoloaded at startup. If it does not start up automatically on your Android device you can download "Auto Start" from the Play store. To be clear you do not need to have the app open on your phone for it to be found by your Tile. The downside is the one year life time of the units but as long as prices remain reasonable and performance great I will repurchase.I am considering the KeySmart Pro which has a rechargeable battery and uses the Tile but is pricey. The thing is replacing keys and fobs can be much more expensive.I regularly update my reviews if performance changes or other issues are encountered.I have location services and Bluetooth active at all times and since I recharge the phone regularly in the car while using Waze and at night it is not an issue. To maximize the effectiveness of the Tiles it is best if both are on.

Cat Mama Peace of Mind!!!
I purchased one of these at Walmart on the whim of my husband a couple weeks ago. We had been trying to use GPS trackers specifically for cats, but it was huge and cumbersome (they acted like we had saddled them with a ball and chain) and it rarely picked up a signal where we live in the boonies. After trying out one of these for one cat, we ended up buying a pack of four from Amazon (much cheaper than Walmart - $25 for one, here a pack of 4 for $60). The Tile Mate is super light weight and easy to attach to the cats' collars with key chain rings. The cats don't seem to notice the extra weight, and I just explained to them that it is the hippest new collar charm so they lost the argument about it being unfashionable. Now both cats have them, as do our sets of keys and my purse (BECAUSE I LOSE EVERYTHING). We had a big test last weekend when one of our cats came home WITHOUT her collar. I walked around our 3 acre yard by our house but never found it in range. Then my husband walked with me to expand our search along the entire property line. We finally had a hit at our back fence. It was windy and there are a bunch of peacocks and other loud animals in our side neighbor's property, so while I swore I heard the Tile Mate playing its song for me once, I couldn't pin point it other than I thought it was coming from our back neighbor's (not the one with animals) property. Repeated attempts did not work because of all the background noise. We walked around the neighborhood, and got a hit again in front of our back neighbor's paddock, so we went to their house and asked if we could search their property (where it was no longer in range). Using the app, we got within range of it again inside the paddock, which is just over our fence line. This time, however, we were closer, so I could hear the song it played over the animal/nature noises. We found it hanging on one of their paddock fences, where it must have caught as my cat likes to tempt fate running through the fence wires at top speed (I have witnessed this when I call for her to get her little orange butt home and she is usually so excited to see me that she sprints like a wild cheetah to reach me as quickly as possible so I am assured of her love). I am grateful I bought the tear away collars for my cats thinking they would get into trouble if their collars got caught on a branch or fence. I am more grateful that my husband had the whim to purchase the Tile Mate! It has already saved me the cost of a new cat collar (seriously, for as little materials as they require they cost $15 or more for the ones that tear away if the cat gets snagged)! So, the $15 Tile Mate paid for itself! Also, Tile Mate is good for marriages. My husband and I had a lot of fun running around the neighborhood on our Tile Mate scavenger hunt (great bonding time over a common goal)! Most importantly, I am now confident that as long as my beloved cats don't lose their collars on more fences, we will be able to find them should they not make their way home one day. This peace of mind is important for someone who lost two cats in her teenage years (both kitties were eventually recovered after a few weeks), and used that fear to justify keeping her two cats indoors for 15 years. We lost one of those cats to cancer last year, and when my husband brought home two farm kittens to help with the severe depression our second cat experienced from losing her sister (and let's face it the depression I was having after losing my beloved baby after 14 years of being together), it was evident I would not be able to contain these new little beasts inside our house 24/7. Tile Mate helps me overcome my fear of losing my beloved felines. Though, technically, if the cats want to disappear, they need only snag their collars on a fence so that it is only the collar we can recover. I do actually recognize that, but no one treats their animals as well as I treat mine, so I do not fear they will ever TRY to leave me on purpose. I still feel a bit better knowing my babies have some form of tracker on them when I let them out each morning. Although I have not had a change to use the Tile Mate on my keys and purse (I've been good lately about not misplacing them), I am certain they will be easy to find compared to the lost collar. (Ignore the aloof look on the orange one's face...she is just so over having the paparazzi take her photo!)

GREAT IDEA, BUT IT FAILED MY "FUNCTIONALITY TEST"
TILE is a splendid concept that is nicely marketed and promises to be a lifesaver. In my case, this hardware/software offering was too glitchy for any degree of dependability. It could well be that I messed something up in the programming/linking--but there is just so much time I was willing to invest on "getting it right". Far too many times, my iPhone 7 logged into the system and couldn't find a tile that was a foot away. Customer service says that this happens sometimes and that I should wait 3 minutes and then try again. I did this once and it failed. To some degree, I find a lot of TILES advertised functionally to be over-stated. The prospective buyer should be aware that this is a bluetooth device ONLY (no wi-fi) and that Bluetooth technology does not serve the product well. If you are less than a hundred ft away from your wayward wallet, you can page it (as in make it beep). If successful, you'll hear an anemic tinny tune of your choice. To put it into perspective, a "talking greeting card" is no less than 10 times louder than a TILE. If your TILE is upstairs and you are downstairs you will not hear it. If your TILE is attached to, let's say, your keys--and said keys are located in a heavy down jacket or coat--you will not hear it. My dog DID hear it and wasn't all that happy about it.A big disappointment for me was the "find it on the map" interface that resembles most popular mobile map apps. More often than not, you left your keys in your car (happens to me all the time). Look for it on your Mobile Device, and you'll discover that your TILE is somewhere in the area which is not all that useful. TILE's solution to the problem involves using your iPhone as a virtual "metal detector". You must sweep your device back and forth until you hear/see a signal. "You're getting warmer...warmer...Oh, No! You're getting cooler"...and so on. You'd be amazed at how Not Fun this becomes when you're late for an appointment and can't find your damn keys! Now, I LOVE gadgets and find computer problems to be well within my expertise. I am not easily daunted by quirky set-ups. However, after an entire weekend of trying to get it right, I basically gave up and returned my 4-TILE purchase from whence it came. Most disappointing of all is that I REALLY NEED something like this! I had great expectations for TILES and am sorry it didn't work out. Judging from all the excellent reviews posted by Amazon, I must assume that your experience might be far different from mine. If you decide to try TILES, I wish you success!
