How does it hold the heat in if both ends are open?

obviously, JM must be a survivalist only on paper because you’ll be freezing your tushy off with to open end on the tent. now if you used it like a sleeping bag, tight around your body maybe but but otherwise you’re a goner! you could buy a second one and duct tape them suckers together so you can make some end walls / flaps to seal up.

What (easy) knot would be appropriate for tying this to a tree?

A two half hitch knot on one end that keeps it secure to one tree. The other side should be a taut line hitch knot, as it is adjustable and can pull the slack "taut". Most rope/lines will stretch a little bit after installation and the tent will sag. The taut line will allow you to address that and easily snug it up again.

Has anyone used the product yet?

I used it in November of of 2021. Saved my life got caught in a storm temperature dropped so bad i was completely wet and the 52 degree weather was not friendy . I cut it and used it as a pancho. Trurthfully i forgot about it i was desperate looking for something dry and warm. I did not think this would work , i had no choice i was broke down and wet. Next day i was alive and a little bit warm . It really works to bad i had to cut it up.

No, it is mylar with a reflective coating. The mylar alone--a plastic--might be recyclable depending on your area, but the reflective surface renders it non-recyclable. Better to reuse or repurpose it if no longer functional, e.g., cut a section to size as a ground tarp, waterproof liner for a backpack, etc.
