Not a patch on Julia Donaldson’s other books
My little girl is a huge fan of Julia Donaldson’s books. This however is not a very nice story, it doesn’t scan well and the main plot is of a wizard kidnapping the young princess and keeping her against her will (not the best moral). Not worth it.

Great book for young children
Bought for my 4 and 5 year old sons who are huge Julia Donaldson fans. I honestly find you can't go wrong with a Julia Donaldson book and this is no exception. Without spoiling the narrative a story of a story of good vs bad, a female heroine (yes!) and very clever writing comes full circle and encourages children to explore shapes and colours and numbers without even knowing that they are doing it. And did i mention there is glitter on every page! A firm favourite.

Okay but no way near her best
This is still an entertaining read but does not come close to some of Julia Donaldson's other stories. There is not much rhyming in it and the pages have quite a lot of reading to get through....you end reading quite quickly I'd like me you have an impatient 3 year old. What The Ladybird Heard are much better in my opinion.

Bit spooky but great
A bit of a spooky story but lovely at the same time. My kids (ages 4 and 6) both enjoyed it! The illustrations are lovely and we’re now really keen to get all the books from Julia Donaldson and this illustrator. Would recommend it to anyone!
