Awsome! Not scary and teach geography as you go..
I did not expect such a great and informative and cute book at this price. Amazing and awsome. My child who is 6 was just mesmerized by all the info in the book. She is great reader andshe read the book all by herself within half hour drive in the car. It has relatively small printso I needed glasses when I tried to read it again with her at bedtime but she managed to readfluetly without any problems. The book has nifty simple map of the world at the beginning and all the customs are dividedinto the geographical regions as in.. North America.. South America.. Central and south Africa..Australia.. etc.. there are bit more divisions then only continents but not that many more.It makes totally sense considering that there are different geographical/ethnical regions withinone continent and that is reflected in the custom.Someone complained in redundancy of the customs but I think that it is not a flow, it is actuallamazing sociological phenomenont that happens around the world and is reflected in the book..a child picks up on it quickly as she reads and figures that there are actually similaritiesor customs are identical in few countries.. that makes you wonder and you begin tospeculate and analize and make some scientifical discoveries.. as in..it becames apparently obvious that the countries that were UK colonies share the same customas UK.. and then again.. areas where african culture was relocated from africa reflect the rootsof african customs etc.. that is just awsome and the whole deducting by geography thingmakes so much fun for a child.you can clearly see why and where the similarites are and where they must have orignated. If I could change anything I would blow the print twice so not only emerging readers could managebut also parents who can't see withoug glasses :) it is awsome book to share at bedtime with kidsso it makes it a bummer when you can't find glasses or need more light due to the small print.Make it bigger print and it will be just perfect.Illustrations are very captivating, simple and to the point and don't overpower the book.So are the stories.. figure one small paragraph per country or area.. and each has maybefive or so sentences.. short and very descriptive. Kee your interest up and going...you just can't put it down.I found it very interesting myself and I would never ever learn nor had an idea howmany different customs are there in the world regarding the tooth traditions..I came from area where there are no traditions as such in this regard so it was fun.The title is fun but so true.. and then others are also non scary for a childand vary from things like ... puting a toth under the bed for a little mouse to take itand give you a new one, planting the tooth in the field etc..yes, scare factor is always important to me so this is zero scary.Great job in compilating and collecting info and illustrations!!!awsome.

Arrived damaged, cute book
The book is small snippets from a lot of various countries. I thought it would be longer stories about traditions and where they came from. It’s a cute book. Covered arrived damaged from being boxed with something else.

Good gift for a 6 year old
This was an interesting gift for my 6 year old with a loose tooth. Some of it was repetitive (a lot of countries have the same traditions) but I guess that reinforced how we’re more similar than different across the world. Overall, it was an educational and informative read and she enjoyed it.

interesting for an adult
it is an interesting story for me because I never knew all the traditions about the loss of a tooth! I think it may be more fascinating for me than it is for the grandkids ! they seemed bored with it --unfortunately I bought 2!

so much fun for kids
When I was a school librarian I made sure this was available on my shelves. Losing that first tooth is a big deal and within a classroom in kindergarten or first grade it happens to almost every child. I monitored as classes came in and was always told by the child or the classmates that "so and so lost a tooth." Off the shelf came the book as that first tooth in the class was missing and it was the story for that day and a discussion along the way for all of them to enjoy. Since I worked in a very multi-cultural environment with kids from all over the world, they all found something to relate to. Then, when my grandkids began to lose teeth, I made sure to send a copy to their houses to be enjoyed with their parents. It is a fun and interesting read.

Recommended for children 5-9
The first tooth that falls out is such a memorable experience for children. One of my sons lost a tooth in Ecuador and our friends told him to put it under the refrigerator for the Tooth Mouse. Another son lost one in Nicaragua and he was instructed to throw it on the tin roof. That made us curious about tooth traditions in other countries. This book is really interesting, even for a grown-up, but especially for the 6-9 year old tooth-less crowd. It tells about teeth in more than 20 countries and it is really fun to compare all the different traditions. I am also a Spanish teacher and I always share the tooth traditions from Latin America with the students. I did, however, ask a friend of mine about the Argentine tooth tradition in the book and she said she had never heard of it! : (

The Two-Bit Prairie Fairy's Review
I carry this book in my Tooth Fairy bag. When people can see me, it is fun to show them what goes on around the world. The USA really needs its own story book. Some parents are stepping in and giving quite a range of $ for their children's teeth! I personally do not like the inequity that is messing with young children's self-worth. I always say, "if it was more than a quarter, it wasn't me!" This book also leaves out the story of the "Wicked Tooth Witch"...children and parents really need to be enlightened about her and the big money that backs her work to undermine peoples' health...starting in childhood.

Cute but way too many repeats
The fact that different countries have different customs is great but after a while it felt repetitive because of the similarities

Great Collection of Tooth Traditions around the World
This is just what we wanted to have as we journey into the "losing teeth" phase. It's packed with traditions, and as we read we saw how a handful of traditions keep popping up in various cultures. Every two-page spread covers a region of the world: North America (including U.S., Canada, Mexico, Native America--Yupik, Yellowknife Dene, Navajo), Central America and the Caribbean (Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Jamaica) South America (including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile), and on and on. It contains much information, and we were not able to read the whole book in our allotted "bedtime story" time, but we read the rest the next day. It is not a story of fiction, but rather a concise view of many different tooth traditions around the world--rather like a wonderful encyclopedia (and no one should be surprised by that fact given the title!) It has also now prompted our family to ask our friends from different countries what they do with their teeth when they lose them. The pictures in the book are enjoyable and helpful in getting a quick glimpse into many different cultures. It is a perfect "present" for a child / family entering this new phase. It came the very day my daughter lost her first tooth, so I thank Amazon once again for their awesome speedy delivery!
