Llama Llama 5-Minute Stories

An insult to the original books by Anna Dewdney
These stories are far from Anna Dewdney's lovely original books. The language is completely pedestrian -- it's been eviscerated of all rhythm, rhyme, and poetry. The illustrations are poor imitations of the originals, and lack all their charm. The stories themselves are boring, and are told in a boring style. Don't buy this book if you have any fondness at all for the stories that Anna wrote. If your child has ever read (or if you have read) the originals, IMO these will be a huge disappointment.

Not poetry
I read the original llama llama poem in the library and my kids liked it. This book is different. Wordy stories and lame lessons. My girl still likes the pictures but I have to create my own dialogue or I might start stammering and swearing in front of toddlers.

Great variety and quality stories
We love the 5 minute story series! As an elementary teacher I am very impressed by the quality of storytelling and how the voice of each character is captured. Sometimes a series of books like this all start to sound the same, but we keep buying these bc they’re all so engaging. From a parent perspective it’s nice to have a set of stories so you’re not reading the same story over and over! Llama Llama stories are so sweet.

Carry over of characters, but not of the book style.
My daughter absolutely LOVES the Llama Llama series of books. She's begun watching the streaming TV show, too. We grabbed this book to add to our collection. While the stories are great and have good morals, they are not in the same style as the original Llama Llama books. They are more like the narrated TV series. Still, it's a great addition to our library!
