A home run for PBS!
I LOVE this series!! They do such a great job explaining the water cycle. It actually holds my son's attention and by the 2nd reading of the book he was able to start answering the questions himself. The characters are adorable and behave politely toward each other (which seems to be a novel character trait these days). The pictures are large and colorful and detailed. When they display a map or diagram, it is laid out cleanly and the labels are large making the map easy to understand. They include these short blurbs on the edges that are suppose to be pages torn from one of the children's personal notebooks and these pages contain more factual information about a specific topic. I like that they have separated these from the rest of the story. This allows the book to work for many age groups. If you have a 3 year old who needs a shorter and less advanced version of the story than the parent can simply skip reading those notebook pages and it doesn't effect the flow of the book. When reading to an older child, one can simply add these into the story. They currently have one other book published and another in the works about dinosaurs. I hope they keep this series alive. It is the best I have seen so far. Thanks PBS!
