A near perfect external SSD.
I've always sworn by Seagate hard drives and my first Seagate SSD is proving perfect too. Great build quality and stylish weighing practically nothing. Unlike some competitors it has a useful activity LED. A major factor is the metal plate on the top which acts as a heat radiator helping keep speeds up and unit lifespan long. Many competitors are completely surrounded in plastic or rubber and boil to the touch with huge transfers. Highly recommended.

Wow
Wow in good way. Excellent item

Not bad
Great if you are backing up a bunch of file that are small on size like 2gb each file . But if your files are huge like 10gb each transfer speed won't be that great . Either way it works well

6-27-2020 This is a review of the Seagate Barracuda Fast SSD 2TB External Solid State Drive Portable – USB-C USB 3.0 for PC, that I purchased.I bought this solid state drive for a desktop computer I built in 2010, around an Asus P7P55D mother board with an early I7 processor. The motherboard was 2009 vitage, built in Japan, and a top of the line product of the time. I still use it everyday. The Seagate Barracuda would not work on the Asus desktop. I tried it on another desktop computer I bought from HP in 2016, an HP Envy with an I7 processor. The Seagate SSD worked just fine on this computer. It took me a while to figure out what the problems was. I also think some other people who have bought a Seagate and have complained about it not working actually had the same problem. The problem was that the old Asus P7P55D did not have USB-3 controllers incorporated in the motherboard. After all, in 2009 USB-3 was just being introduced. What I found out was that Seagate drives are NOT downward compatible. In other words, they will not work on a computer with the older USB-2 drivers and controllers. This situation was the same with Seagate external backup drives. They will NOT work on older computers that only have USB-2 controllers. You can tell by looking at the end of the cable, is it black or white or red? If so, then it is probably a USB-2. If it is blue then most likely it is a USB-3. But not always! On the old Asus P7P55D the mother board had two usb ports that had blue tabs in them. But the schematic diagram of the Asus showed that only USB-2 controllers were incorporated. And the spec sheet verified this. All the Western Digital backup drives and internal drives proved to be downward compatible to USB-2. As a result, I only now purchase Western Digital (WD) My Passport drives. This issue only arises when going from the SSD or regular hard drive, from Sata output to USB. If you are using the Seagate internally and are going from the sata output of the drive to the motherboard sata input/output you won’t have a problem. The problem with internal drives is when you are cloning the new drive via a usb arrangement to then be installed into the computer once the cloning is done. If your adapter (sata to usb) is USB-3 and your computer doesn’t have USB-3 controllers then you are out of luck.Fortunately, you can purchase a SATA to USB-2 adapter from Amazon for about $8.00As to some other customers who accused this vendor of not giving a refund on a defective SSD, I don’t know the particulars but I suspect something such as described above probably happened. From over 40 years of working with computers I can tell you that it is very very rare to have a defective solid state drive. They have no moving parts. If they are damaged it is usually because the person has not grounded themselves of discharge static charge on their body.I am writing this review to let other customers know that from this vendor I got a full refund. I returned the fully working SSD to them in a carefully packaged box with bubble wrap and sent it to them via United Parcel Service, (UPS) as from lots of experience, that is the most reliable and safest method.

Using for Apple Time Machine and as a long-term SQL Server backup drive - Working great!
My 2-Tb Apple Time Machine drive filled up, and rather than go through the hassle of clearing old backups, I just got this instead. It is FANTASTIC for that purpose. Super-fast and hardly noticeable. The green light is cool, and I like it, but honestly is does it's job "in the background" so I tend to not even notice it. I hadn't noticed any heat issues until the review offered that for rate features. Not noticing any heat really. I shut my Mac down entirely each night, so it isn't on 24/7.I was so happy with this that I decided to use it for my SQL Server machine. I have about 8 instances of SQL data servers on one machine, each with numerous databases, and I make daily (7 day rotation) and weekly backups (up to 1 year). On one drive, it was filling things up too much. So I got this as a second external SSD, and it's now the weekly backups for all instances and databases. Works great! Hardly noticeable. And I DID pull a backup for a client from 2 weeks ago and it restored really fast. Like my Mac, this Windows 2019 Server shuts down entirely each night (after backups), so it's not on 24/7. Haven't had any issues. For the price, this drive is fantastic. If it weren't for how quickly technology improves, I'd probably buy a couple of more and stick them in the closet until needed. Great storage solution!

Works with my M1 Mac Mini Big Sur
I read a review about this not working with Mac M1 and/or Big Sur OS. They mentioned they got a "disk does not have enough space" type of error. I noticed that the OS has some odd file volume backup techniques. I was obviously concerned because I ordered it before the review and the shipping was delayed due to COVID. I hooked it up to the M1 Mac Mini and it did not see the drive until I restarted the Mac. It then informed me that I needed to "erase" and reformat the disk and to APFS (case sensitive). I hit "OK" and the disk was set up to work as my Time Machine back-up drive. It has performed half a dozen backups and I have been able to access the files using Time Machine. The first backup was for over 600 GBs and took less than an hour. The Airport Time Capsule I replaced with this Seagate drive took 16 hours to back up the same data. The ATC started insisting that I back it up from scratch about every 3 months. A real pain. I am glad I found this little speed demon. I bought the 2TB version to cover the entire contents of my new Mini.I'll update this review if the drive starts to act up.

Amazing. Only 1-2 issues
There were a few issues I had where It would disconnect out of nowhere. But that might have been because of power, or me going over here and having it a weird spot.I game on a laptop, so this is perfect considering i use a 2nd monitor from my laptop screen and game on both screens when I want. But its nice to have the SSD for the fast game loading. I would recommend it because of how many times i've loaded into games in seconds.I know SSD's are expensive. But I think this product is worth around 60-70. I think i paid about 80+ for it. Probably more. But regardless this is a good deal if your wanting to game and get something good. I've had no issuesit comes with a USB - C and a typical external USB plugin. 2.0? or something idkBut because of the price i want to say 4.6/5. Just because of the issues I had. And the cord for the USB C is just a little too small. But otherwise. Great product (Just lower it. I would have gone to a better product if i was smarter and had the knowledge i have now. But its whatever)
