The actual diameter is 7/16, and not 1/2 inch. So, it's kinda like when you buy any piece of wood or lumber, a 2×4 isn't 2"x 4".Same here with these dowels.Quality is good and seller shipped on time.The dowels are fine for my intended use, it's ok they're less than 1/2 inch diameter. And they're way less expensive than at my hardware store. But if you need exactly 1/2 inch dowels, these may not be what you need. Overall a good product, though.

I use to hang small quilts - strong, straight, smooth, perfect. I drilled holes in the ends using a household drill to attach cup holders screws. Very happy. An art shop would have charged me much more and taken longer. My quilt will arrive at its destination tomorrow. Yay!!

The 1/2 dial is the perfect size to repair the newell posts at the foot of our downstairs. We have what is called a half bullnose base on the bottom step. It was damaged when a carpenter tried to refinish the wooden step surface. The newell posts are anchored by a short piece of 1/2 diameter dial post for the placement of each post. This step was built in 1950 when everyone was turning their stairs in the old row homes to make the living room wider. I have not been able to find the pieces I needed to do this repair. I am very excited about this find.

These dowels are of great quality--they're measured correctly, cut well, and smooth with no splinters or blemishes. I am excited to use all of them for a decorative project and will definitely purchase from Woodpeckers again. It isn't easy finding unfinished, pre-cut wood that's also good quality or exactly as described on Amazon, so I very much appreciate this product. The dowels also came quickly so we could get to work right away--an extra perk (as well as a thanks to the seller)!
