this is the first book to buy to learn German
In fact, in my opinion this series is the best place to start for any language you may want to learn. I’ve used several to prepare for trips abroad, and found them the most efficient in getting to basic functionality compared to any other self-learning method. They all follow the same, highly practical template, teaching the essential vocabulary and grammar you need to get by as a tourist. The genius of the author’s method is its simplicity. You are not confused with subtleties of the language. Verb conjugation is simplified to its most basic form. In fact, she does not even bother with future or past tenses. But in everyday situations you can almost always get your basic message across with just the present tense. She uses some gimmicky but highly effective techniques to make learning fast and actually fun. You will be amazed and encouraged by how quickly you progress if you just go through the approximately one hundred pages in the order presented.Older editions of this or any print book had the major drawback of not exposing you to the sound of native speakers, but the new download feature overcomes this. Another option would be to pair it with a free app like Duolingo for more listening practice. I found I progressed much faster with this book than with Duolingo alone. If you wish to master German, this is not the book for you. But I found it highly effective to achieve basic communication at a bargain price.

A Great way to learn a language.
Well planned and so much more than a vocabulary book. Grammar is stressed to be able to converse in German, not throw object's names in a broken fashion.I am 83 years old.

Another Great Product
You definitely need to work on a new language for more than 10 Minutes A Day, but otherwise I highly recommend this set. It's well-considered and well-paced. We found that if we studied each lesson twice and worked on the next lesson once, all in the same day, then repeated this process the next day, we made real progress quickly. Sehr gut!Fuenf Sterne.

German 10 Minutes a Day review
This is a good product for any beginner of the language. It is very simple and by the end of the book, you have all the basics down and are ready to move on to a higher level. My only problems with it are that Kershul doesn't explain accents in a word or where the accent (or emphasis) is in each word, but each word is given a pronunciation however. Also, conjugation is a little confusing as it only explains first and third person mostly and in the present tense; Past and future isn't explored much. Good product though for what it costs!

Painless German Lessons
I'm using this book to teach a group of senior citicens to speak and understand basic level German. The pictures are great and the exercises are very helpful. The book focuses on learning words and phrases in an organized manner and does not frighten learners with grammar and sentence structure. I think an audio CD would go well with this, just so the audience would have a way to practice at home, or while traveling. Don't let the title mislead you...it takes more than 10 minutes to learn...practicing 10 minutes several times a day will do the trick. With language it's all about repetition.

Overall a good book for beginners, but it misses one really important part....
I use this book as a German teacher. It is great for beginners, as it is a quick and easy introduction. Unfortunately, it is in certain parts outdated ("Kinder, Küche, Kirche" Was this book written in the 50s?) and completely ignores the verb conjugation with the pronoun "Du". "Du" is the casual form of "you", in opposition to the formal "Sie". As Du is today in daily life probably more in use than Sie, this is a big miss. See the photo. It also ignores the pronoun Ihr (you pl.)To work with this book the student needs a teacher or at least someone who knows how to speak German and can help with the pronunciation.
