A got to have title for me
As soon as I saw this title in the pre-order list I knew I had to have it. I'm very interested in World War 2 history, and the German army in particular. I already have a fairly large selection of books about German uniforms, weapons and gear, but until now I've always had difficulty finding out what the rations used by the Wehrmacht were like. Everyone has heard the Rats, Kuch and Bohnen terms, but for me this is not concrete enough. Well, with this book I've got all the answers I need. The book is divided into chapters, each dealing with a particular product category. Each product is described in detail, and illustrated with colour photo's of the real thing. Where possible a contemporary US verdict on the product is included. To give an impression of what is included I'll list the chapters:1. Cereal and Baked Products; 2. Dairy Products; 3. Fish, Fats and Poultry Products; 4. Meat Products; 5. Fruit and Vegetable Products; 6. Coffees, Teas and Other Beverages; 7. Spices, Baking Aids, Bouillon and Miscellaneous; 8. Sugars, Candy, Jams and Other Desert Products; 9. Beverages; 10. Emergency and Special Rations Items. The appendices include: The Supply of Wehrmacht Rations and Utilization of Foreign Rations by the German Army, to name two.All in all the book gives me the impression it's as complete as it can be. I've found many interesting items I knew nothing about, and I'm very pleased with the large number of colour illustrations. I also like the US commentaries on the German products very much, as it gives a little more insight into what the products were like. It's a specialist title I feel, but if this is in your field of interest it's also a book you shouldn't miss.

Amazing !
It would be hard to think of a more comprehensive book on its' subject than this one. I have felt let down in the past by one or two titles from this publisher, but not this time. A beautifully-produced volume with masses of colour photos on high-quality paper. Not cheap, but it's well worth the outlay and, in my opinion, makes a superb bookshelf companion to Agustin Sainz's 'Deutsche Soldaten'.The previous reviewer has done a great job of describing the contents so I shan't 'double up'. Obviously this is a highly specialized subject, but if you collect WWII militaria, are involved with re-enactment, or simply interested in how the Wehrmacht 'worked'......this book is quite simply a must-have !

tres bon livre
