As a result, China has recently started to investigate ways to replace animal testing and has sought the assistance of European scientists. We have been actively involved in the research and development of alternatives to animal testing for many years. We were a party to SEURAT-1, the single largest Private-Public Partnership initiative which aimed to develop alternatives to animal testing of cosmetic products. With a total contribution of €50 million, funded in equal by the European Commission and the cosmetics industry, it managed to produce some alternative methods to animal testing and set the ground for further development of which we are also part. This is a really great question we would be happy to assist you with. The three most commonly used sulfate compounds are sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate and ammonium laureth sulfate. Each type of sulfate is different in intensity. The "-eth" versions are milder so can be used in color safe shampoo not effecting the color in your hair. During hair coloring, the large dye polymers form inside the hair. These are trapped inside the hair because of their size. When hair gets soaked into water, the hair shaft will swell. In doing so, the cuticles are forced to open up as well. The dye molecules or fragments are then able to leave the hair. In other words water alone can strip your hair if it gets wet regularly. The long and short is sulfates in shampoo stripping hair color is a myth. It does not strip hair anymore than water alone does. Our Nioxin Cleansing Shampoo is a clarifying shampoo. Sulfates have to be in the formulation if you want to get rid of the dirt, environmental impurities, sebum and product build.
