So glad I bought this!
I am a lit teacher at an independent school, and was able to use this book to link the literature and the art of the modern movement. My students loved this project - they made their own artwork for a display at school!

Helpful and interesting introduction
This is a good quick introduction. A good supplement to a course on modernist literature or art. What is important is that it shows the Modernist project as something that encompassed art, literature, psychology, science, and politics--in other words, it contextualizes the movement.

If you like a light compact book that you can put in ...
I'm not really a fan of small books with tight binding because it makes it difficult to highlight and annotate on them. Personally, I wont buy from this series again. But remember my review reflects my preference for books. If you like a light compact book that you can put in a jacket pocket then this is an excellent choice for you. Great for a quick read if you ride on public transportation and you don't feel like carrying a big book around

Delivers on its title
A concise overview of a very big and very slippery subject. Covers a lot of ground with enough information to give the reader reason to explore for herself.

Gives masturbation a bad name.
This is not an introduction. It is the author talking with himself, enjoying his erudition, employing a plethora of abstruse and arcane allusions, all of which accomplishes nothing other than to remind the reader that being educated and being able to educate are two very different things.

Modernism in a nutshell
Great little book, lots of insights. An eye opener on a difficult subject, as many in this series are.

A solid introduction to a fluid subject
Very useful overview plunging into certain topics - eg stream of consciousness which will give me confidence to tackle Mrs Dalloway - showing the links between art, literature and music in particular putting these topics into an historical context but showing - for me anyway - the parallels with today's issues. This is worthy of inclusion amongst the better VSIs and will lead me to more in depth investigation of the period ( in addition to giving Mrs Dalloway a go, as mentioned).
