ACTUALLY WORKS. IGNORE OTHER REVIEWS THAT SAY IT DOESN'T, I WAS SKEPTICAL TOO
Worked like a charm on my Pelican gun case. At first the wire kept breaking for me while using the collars, I found that by just using the wire around the actual prongs in the grooves worked super well. Only like 3 twists per side. To get proper tension I found that squeezing the prongs a bit while twisting worked well, then letting go for proper tension (doesn't have to be stupid tight)At first I wasn't sure about the wire... I even ran to home depot and wally world to try and find some "resistance" or "nichrome" wire, with no luck. NEITHER STORE SUPPLIED THEM. I got fishing leader but ended up trying the supplied wire one final time when I got home (this time without collars) and it worked for the duration of the mag cut as well as the actual gun with only 1 retie due to trouble reaching. near the bipod. You'll probably need a second set of hands to push foam around for some cuts...the thing doesn't have a huge space between handle and wire.See attached pic for quality. Also be sure to run the unit level or you'll get sloppy cuts. I found a big table with lots of clear space to work well. This was my first time using a foam cutter and was very impressed after all the skeptical reviews. Other people may have got duds or tried going too fast or didn't take small 5 second breaks after 6-12 inches of cutting. Take your time and it will probably look even better than mine!I'll be doing my dad's case after he orders replacement foam due to the sloppy cuts the first time with a utility knife. Solid product so far.

Big dud
Never worked. The wire would not heat up. I tried everything. Double triple checked the connection. Tightened the wire plenty. It’s just too cheaply made. I saw the bad reviews and decided to gamble. Bad decision. Plan to make my own at home now.

Cuts like butter!
This worked wonderfully on styrofoam, cuts like butter! Great for crafting play sets.

Works fine if you aren't a moron
First of all, this review process is comical. They want to make sure you are OVER 13 to write a review, and then this item is labelled as a "toy" and it wants to know how fun your "toy" is. (PSST, hey nitwits, people UNDER 13 play with toys. Just thought I'd let you know)As for this Electrically Powered, Hot Thin Sharp Wire that could Penetrate your Skin and Pointed Steel Posts that could Pierce an Eye "toy", it works great for cutting polystyrene foam. I bought one for some packaging needs about a year ago and it's still working, sort of. The plastic housing has finally cracked so it's losing its electrical connection unless you hold it just right so I'm here to buy another one.The trick to using a TOOL like this is to let it do the work and not push it. Just let the wire cut with a gentle push in the direction you want to go.

I Forgot How Fun and Cool This Thing Is
I had one of these back when I was a kid. My mother was big into arts and crafts and I have done everything under the sun. I mean everything. We used a similar device to cut foam for some art project that I was required to do. It was not as nice. It was plastic, not as versatile and ran on batteries.Last October I had the need to cut large panels of foam to use as tombstones. I had originally thought of using a knife but what a mess that makes. This tool is great for cutting foam. No mess. Easy to use.It has a small power supply which plugs into the handle. It has a trigger which sends a low voltage to the wire which gets hot and melts the foam. As soon as you let go of the trigger the wire cools quickly to the touch.I did purchase the add-on Foam Cutter Bow & Guide and extra wire. The bow allows you to work on larger pieces of foam. The extra wire is in case I break it while working....which didn't happen.I would suggest this tool to anyone working with and cutting foam.

Poor design, great tool
This is such a great foam cutter that I would give it 5 stars if only it worked consistently. The power adapter port on the tool is so poorly designed that it doesn't fit securely and gets slightly loose as it is used (even for a few minutes). The tool then turns off without the user realizing and stops heating and gets stuck in the foam. It's hard to tell if the cord is plugged in securely. So much trouble for such a simple tool!Edit: I was so frustrated with the way this tool was designed that I performed surgery on it. The yellow slide switch has to be held with a great deal of upward pressure to keep the power on.So I filed down the power plug port to make it fit better. And then the real surgery began. I de-soldered the yellow switch and found a pressure switch that is easy to press down and hold in place. I tested the circuitry to make sure the new switch would power the tool and then soldered its wires to the existing power wires. I used a scroll saw to cut a larger hole for the switch in the tool's plastic casing and then hot glued the switch in place. When I re-assembled the tool and tested it, it worked great! My photos are above... I'm hopeful the engineers who worked on this tool will take some of these improvement ideas to heart.

Good product, works great!
works so much better than I thought it would, I am making 3D wall art with RD-50 insulation foam board for my daughters room and thought this would be a much easier less messy option than the sawzall I had been using, but was not sure if it would cut well with this particular type of foam board considering it was not intended for hobby/craft type use. But it worked so much better and even beyond my expectations! I thought the push to heat trigger would be very irritating and even imagined I would have to tape it down before I even got it, but sure to their word it heats up instantly ready to cut at a push and cools down equally as fast (Please do not test this by touching) as it is not instantaneous. I give this product 5 stars for it's quality feel does not feel like cheap plastic, also it works just as stated on it's advertising which these days getting junk from companies is just par for the course so this was a nice surprise.
