Suunto Vyper Novo Compact Dive Computer

Great computer, but without the data cable, I would consider the Suunto D5 as it has bluetooth connection to the app and can be found for about the same price as the Vyper and Data cable when you add them together.

Purchased this computer and I've had more negative experiences than positive. After familiarizing myself with the settings available I was ready to dive. Pre dive checks were good, but right as I went to set the dive mode before hopping off the boat, I noticed the "Air" dive option just disappeared.. Forced to select Nitrox, and set O2 to 21%. After a factory reset the "Air" option reappeared. Not too long after, I was off to another dive. And again, after working just fine during a pre dive test, I stand up, set the mode, and the tank pressure just went blank. No matter how close the computer was to the transmitter. Luckily I have an SPG as a backup. So I was still able to enjoy my dive. Had to factory reset the computer a 2nd time to get the AI function to work. Pressure readings worked fine for about 2 dives, and then the same thing happened. AI just stopped reading again. I plan to factory reset the computer again after transferring my dive log info to my PC via the $80+ cable. 7 dives and the computer only fully functioned for 2. Shouldn't have to constantly factory reset it. It's ridiculous. Final thoughts. Skip this model and just purchase the Zoop if you just need a dive computer. I'm always expecting to have some sort of issue with this computer, and I feel like I wasted the almost $1K invested. I just don't trust it to work as it should all the time. I don't want any surprises, and if I pay for AI, I expect it to work 100% of the time. I don't even want to hand it down to my son, so I learned my lesson. Although Suunto is supposed to be a trusty brand, I've had too many bad experiences in such a short time and I'm super bummed that I could've put the $ I spent on this computer and transmitter towards a different product. No kidding, just skip this one if you plan to use the AI feature. Who knows though, maybe I just got a lemon and you will not have the constant issues as I did. UPDATE: I have continued to dive with this computer, and I have not had any issues with AI readings since the dives mentioned above. In total, no issues for the past 33 dives. In summary, set everything up the night before if possible so you can just turn it on and dive. Although I wasn't seeing my air capacity in those early dives, air capacity was still tracked when sync'd to Suunto DM5. In summary, I've been pretty happy with this setup since the early issues. Just be aware of the possibility of the issues mentioned above. Changed from 3 stars to 4 stars 2.5 dive seasons in.

Very easy to use. The app for MacOS is excellent. Dives are downloaded quickly with all sorts of additional dive data. Highly recommend for a wrist dive computer.

This was my first dive computer, I didn't want to have a lot of money wrapped up into it (was just starting to buy gear) and this fit the need at the time. I wanted to add the integrated Air, which forced me to decide if I wanted a different, fancier model or stick with this one and I decided to buy the Air transmitter. One word of caution, if you want to connect this to your computer, the cable will run $80 to $100. I have over 60 dives with this computer.

As normal with SUNNTO products the watch performance is great. Only need to remember process for changing dive settings as it is different than the other similar computers.... Will write a reminder in dive log...

Great dive computer, the audible alarms are a great feature. Works with transmitter to track air. Simple to learn to use. Too big to wear as an every day watch. But in the water it is perfect. The USB interface is pricey so that may be a costly feature if you decide to buy it.

Unit arrived in excellent condition. Shipment was delayed due to severe COVID-19 protocols. The strap is long, very long, could fit around my leg if necessary, dutifully trimmed.
