Very precise

I only gave a quick look (till now is my VCR still ok). I believe it can be very useful: deep enough in theory and practice; many explanations, drawings and pictures. Anyway VHS only; some indications for 8 mm and PCM systems, really very few for Betamax. Few indications for HQ and SuperVHS. Only NTSC, not PAL. I have PAL (I am living in Italy), I enjoy anyway having this book because many explanations are interesting for every standard.

This would make a great text book. It has all the basic information and it is a great troubleshooting guide.

The software was quite helpful. The VCR software provided a means to resolve issues and do it with relative ease.
