What a great Rotor System. Old school mixed with new school.
I have used Channel Master Rotors since the early 1970's. They were once made by a USA company called Crown but now are made in China-like most everything else. That said, the rotor unit still looks like the older units made in the USA. A deeper look inside reveals pretty much the same design Crown used. I installed my new unit up on my tower at 48ft along with a new booster and new UHF Yagi Antenna. The big difference with the new Rotor system is the indoor control unit. The older control boxes I am used to seeing and using with Channel Master Rotors were bigger and had a large knob on the face of the box. you simply turned the knob (which had a pointer) to the direction you wanted to antenna to point to (North, East, West or South). The rotor would turn until it got to the direction you selected. The new control box is much smaller and comes with a remote control. The control box has a 3 digit readout which represents a compass heading in degrees. The bottom line is, the Rotor System works great right out of the box. You will have to buy the 3 conductor rotor cable that connects the control box to the outdoor rotor unit. I would highly recommend this Channel Master Rotor System to anyone who wants a quality system and more TV channels or radio stations The system comes with all the "how to" you'll need to install it like a professional.

I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews. The shaft that rotates the antenna has a bit of loose side to side movement at the top. However there is on rotational looseness. The three days after installation conveniently provided a high wind system that produced gales up to 50 mph and wind speed from 25 mph to 40 mph. During that period the antenna was rock solid sitting on this rotor and the continuous pixelation that I was getting with my previous rotor was non existent. The wiring hookup is also a breeze. Just trim the three leads back 1/2 inch and push them into the receivers while holding down the release. Make sure you reset the rotor to double zero and facing north before you tighten the mast and antenna and you are ready to go. Each channel can be programmed into the remote without leading zeros. I put a CM HD8200U antenna on this rotor which is one of the biggest antennas available and it works just fine. I mounted the rotor on 1in galvanized steel water pipe which is 1.5in OD. The antenna is mounted on a lighter 3ft length of chain link fence top rail above the rotor. I am very pleased to have this product.

Channel Master Rotator system
I have had this system for 10 years and just recently have been having problem with the motor, gears out of line and grinding. I don't really know what you can do about it, as there is no way to service it. There are other intermediate gears you can purchase to decrease to stress on it; however, they cost an addition $60.00 dollars. I looked at several other type motors because at first I wanted to just replace the rotator motor, after checking, I discovered that the motor cost as much as the whole system and all had the same set-up regarding the way it works. I then checked several other types and manufactures none of which were rated by the users as good or excellent. This system had the best rating of all of them so I decided to stick with what I had and replace everything because of it's age. To my surprise when I checked at the place I purchase it originally the price was higher then Amazon so I decided to order it from Amazon. I received an even bigger surprise when I discovered that it came from the same company that I originally purchase it from back in 2001. It's an excellent system and I really have not had any problems with it. You may wonder why I didn't rate it a 5 star? Well as and engineer I believe there really is not much out there in the real world, especially a mechanical device, that is worthy of 5 stars

it is working great for me right now
While I can't speak to the longevity of the product, it is working great for me right now. It is holding a winegard 7698p antenna. I've just had it up for a few hours but we were in 25+mps winds today and it held fine. The packaging claims steel gears and a mechanical brake, but I didn't take it apart so I can't tell you how well its really built. It looks and feels just like an old channel master rotor I have. Unfortunately that rotor is locked up due to over 15 years of laying on the ground unused. That rotor still hums when hooked up so the motor tries to work, which leads me to believe it would still work if it had been turned once in a while. I hope this one is as good.
