I really like this book, its not fancy and your not going to "wow" anyone but you will have great fundamentals and timming!

While I don't currently play the drums, I did briefly when I was a teenager eons ago. I still play bass (and my interest in the drums was to help me be a better bassist), piano, and harp... so I love everything music. I wish I had this book when I was learning drums back in the day. The author makes learning how to drum very logical and methodical. Before he gets to the lesson section, he goes into basics about buying a drum kit, proper seating, stick holding, drum notation, and the like. The lesson sections start with basic chapters that feature a certain note length, starting with quarter notes and working towards 16th notes, with further chapters exploring variations on the faster rhythms. Each chapter is progressive in itself, typically starting with a simple hi-hat rhythm and gradually adding the bass and the snare drums, with variants for tom-toms and the symbols. If you're a beginning drummer or are thinking about learning how to play the drums, this book would be a great way to start yourself on a solid path to being an excellent drummer.I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Since I picked this book up, I haven’t been able to put it down.I’ve been wanting to learn how to play drums in a more formal way since forever (I’ve only played by ear all this time) but I never took lessons because I thought I didn’t need them in the first place but after performing the first exercises on this book, I quickly found out how wrong I was.It starts out with some beginner exercises but then it starts adding more and more complex stuff as you go and that wasn’t that easy but it’s definitely fun to improve!I loved the progression it makes you go through because you then start connecting the dots from the previous exercises and you start getting better and better and it’s all beautifully and systematically done.Even though I haven’t been able to finish this book yet, I know I’ll be getting the rest of the books, definitely highly recommended!

It was easy to download the audio file, but it’s on long file with no chapters, so you have to listen to the whole thing everytime. Or fast-forward. That’s not too cool.After reading the book, and listening to the file, I amend my review. This is seriously cool! What a novel way to teach drumming. I will be getting the rest of this series.

This book might be some help to a more experienced drummer but as a beginner no help.
