VS8 rear view system
I gave a 1 rating, not because of camera and monitor, but when I installed system camera cable was to short, so I ordered a longer cable, cable was not in stock so it had to be made, took 3 weeks, when I got cable it didn't work, wiring inside was wrong, contacted seller, they are still trying to figure out what happened, I know what was wrong, so after 5 weeks from purchase I still have system that I can not use. Seller has been good to work with, have no problem with communication. I have been very patient. That has ended. Took system out, it was in a class c motorhome, and am going to buy a system that was made for motorhome. I am going to call it a bad investment.

Very clear monitor, wires too short, mirror a little darker than factory, but overall great
The monitor is very clear and when not in use completely invisible. Comes with 18' cable, which wasn't long enough to route under the vehicle into to cab of a Subaru Baja (at least not at the route I took). The mirror is a bit darker than factory, but works well. I like that the monitor can be viewed while in drive or only during reverse -- there's a button on the mirror that allows this. It defaults to reverse-only viewing. I was worried the quality would be lacking, but overall pleased. The 4 star (rather than 5) is because the cables weren't enough to get where I was going -- had to order an extension.

Good value and good customer support
The mirror itself is excellent, and the camera also works nicely. The best part is that there is actually a company that stands behind their product, which is often not the case in these non-name brand electronics. I originally thought my mirror was defective because it would not switch the camera on while in reverse. I was able to call their quality control guy directly and describe my problem and he started to look into it. That same night though I realized that it was due to a voltage drop that was occuring when my truck was pulled into reverse. For some reason the power I had tapped drops in voltage from 12v to 10v when put into reverse. I found a better power source and all is well. But the company has good communication and I do believe they will take care of you if anything goes wrong. Assuming you pick the right spots to wire everything to you should be able to do the job within an hour or so (with some variation depending on how much trim you have to remove). To answer some of the concerns others have mentioned. Yes, there is a slight impression of the monitor box visible in the mirror. How visible it is will depend on how much light is in your vehicle. If your vehicle is dark enough inside you will not see it at all. Even with a ton of light it is not distracting at all though. The camera works well in both day and night-time conditions. There are no line markers to aid with parking, but if you aim the camera right, you can set it up so that the bottom of the camera reflects where the red line marker would be if one existed. The mirror optics are pretty good. I don't find it to be noticeably darker than my OEM mirror. I've heard of people stealing these cameras, so be mindful that if you mount it on the license plate it will be very obvious. I mounted mine under my bumper, but I have a truck with a slight lift to it so that might not work for you. I had no problem with wire distances for my old F150 although the camera cables barely reached. In short, this is definitely a good value for the price, with customer support available if you need it. I don't think you'll find a better rear view camera system for the money.

Not worth it.
This didn't last but a few years.

1st you have to put on your reading glasses to see it (becausae it is on the rear view mirror - close and small), then you cannot see through the rest of your mirrors. 2nd in this position it reflects everything and is hard to see even with your reading glasses on, 3rd. It doesn't work in very hot weather, i.e., no image at all when it's over 90, which means it only works at night in Atlanta in the summer. I am planning to replace it with the Biggest screen I can get that mounts low on the dash.

The video screen is fine. The only problem I have with it is that there is no way to dim the mirror at night. Lights from vehicles that are behind you, blind you.

Worked great until the screen died just after the warranty expired.

Great product
I use this in a commercial vehicle. I like the monitor built in to the rear view mirror. I was dreading the idea of another gadget mounted in the cab of my van so this is less clutter. It automatically turns on in reverse and is crystal clear. Because it is in the mirror it's a natural fit to look into it while your backing. Because the wires have plug in ends you have to drill holes in the rear door for the camera. I wish it came with grommets that would have saved a trip to the hardware store. Other than that great product
