Is the light very bright?

Not bright for outside, but inside for bedroom reading is fine. All 3 of ours, the button to turn on and off stopped working within 3 months or so.

I don't think so. Personally, I had bad luck with the flashlights. One arrived with the light not working. The other didn't last long after purchase.

Does the flashlight turn off automatically if left on?

What's neat is it's a momentary switch...take your thumb off and it turns off.

Would this work well for one of those kids flashlight books?

It should. It’s just a regular flashlight.
