Helpful hint
I received the HDMI adapter, I plugged it in the thunderbolt port at the back of my iMac (which was on at the time) and then plugged in the HDMI cablein. One end of the HDMI cable in to the adapter and the other end into the TV. I then turned on the TV, chose the HDMI that the mac was plugged in to via the AV input menu on the TV and there was my Mac screen on the TV but no sound. On my Mac I then went into preferences then to sound and then click on the output tab and there, there should be my TV where I should have been able to select for the sound to come from the TV but was not. After some research on line I found that if, when you plug the adapter the HDMI cable into the Mac and the TV, if you have the Mac and the TV turned on first it works, the option to chose the TV is there to select in preferences, sound then output, Mine being a Panasonic shows as Panasonic followed by the model. Why it should work this way I don't know, so if you can't get sound try it.I'm sorry if this is long winded but I hope this has helped someone.Kev

It worked consistently and reliably! Hurrah!
I am nearly 60 years old and do not like technology, however I need to use it in order to do voluntary work in church. We are currently doing Alpha, (alpha.org) where a video about the Christian faith is shown each week and then an open discussion follows. It is really important that the video is shown. I had a younger person set this up for week 1, but they weren't available week 2, so they gave me a link to order a lead of my own. The lead arrived, I plugged it in and .... it worked!! We watched the video and had a wonderful discussion on the topic of Who is Jesus? This is really important for me and so much appreciated, by myself and those other people who want to know more. Small things can make a big difference! Thank you. (Sorry I couldn't mark on durability as I have only used it once, but it was amazing.)

It used to work perfectly.... but not anymore
Original reviewI wanted to be able to stream video from YouTube, etc, to my TV from my laptop. I have a "smart" Samsung TV, but it's a few years old and, as often seems to be the case, Samsung has stopped updating it's apps, so as video providers make changes to their products, they stop working on my TV. This adapter provides a great solution - even on my Macbook Pro that runs Linux instead of MacOS.Update 18-8-21It worked fine for 15 months, but since then it's been unreliable. I don't use it very often, but I spent ages fiddling around with the display options on Linux until it dawned on me that it could be the Ivanky adapter that was faulty. It was. I replaced it with a another manufacturer's product and everything has been fine since then. The Ivanky unit looks well built but, in my case, it's been let down by poor reliability.

Good quality cable
I bought this to connect my iMac to my television to play DVDs. The television has HDMI input and I have a HDMI cable, but the mac doesn't have a HDMI output, so I needed this thunderbolt-HDMI convertor. It does the job well, it carries both the picture and the sound and the quality is good. It was very easy to use, as soon as I plugged it in my mac automatically started mirroring the screen on the tv. The one downside of the set-up is that there isn't a way to turn the image off on the mac screen, so either you can have the same image on both, or a different image (i.e. it treats it as a second screen side-by-side), but either way the mac screen has to be on whilst watching stuff on the tv. My workaround is just to cover it up with a piece of cardboard because otherwise I find it distracting.Overall I'm happy with the cable, it does exactly what I need.

Limited to 1920x1200 but otherwise fine.
I didn't realise before I bought this adapter that it won't support anything above 1920x1080 in resolution. Ivanky do another adapter for up to 4k screen resolutions, but it's a bit more money. As I understand it those higher reolutions require an active adapter whereas the lower resolutions can use a passive adapter like this one. Less to go wrong in a passive adapter I guess, so if you don't need the higher resolutions then this one might be marginally better? The active adapter would be more versatile and future-proof.Just one thing that might be useful: the manufacturers say the adapter will only cope with up to 1920x1080, but I have used it with a screen with the slightly higher 1920x1200 resolution and it has worked perfectly.
