Q: I need caps for 12 oz bottles. Will all caps fit on all sizes of beer bottles?

They'll fit all or most 12 oz bottles and there's even 16 oz bottles you can use but if you're recycling bottles you need to make sure that they're unthreaded and that there is enough of a bump for your capper to grab on to. St Pauli Girl bottles work great if you need a good reference for a bottle. The capper grabs onto them and seals perfectly. So if you want a brown bottle just make sure that the top looks the same where the bump is far enough from the top. On some bottles the bump is too close to the top and your capper will slip off and not cap right. If you're buying the bottles for capping they're always right. You only run into problems when it's a bottle specialized for the machines they use in a huge beer factory like Budweiser or something but not all brewing companies make their own specialized bottle. I would strongly suggest capping one before you poor fluid in it just to be sure that it's right.

Q: Does anybody know the measurements, in inches or millimeters, across the flat top of these caps?

If there is such a thing as a "standard" bottle cap this is it. I measured it with a ruler and would say it is 1 inch across the top.

Q: Is there a point to using these as opposed to standard caps if they are going to be sanitized by liquid sanitizer?

I have used 02 caps for a long time. I usually make ale or stout with high alcohol content (9% or more), and I always sanitize the caps. With the removal of oxygen in the airspace between beer and cap, I have been able to store my brew for 3 years or more. No such luck with standard caps.

They work!

I bottled a bunch of home brew using these caps. I have a lever-style capper, and they went on easily - almost too easily compared to some other caps I had - so I was a little worried they weren't sealing correctly. But I need not have been concerned. They work great! Perfect seal, no loss of carbonation in my home brew. I will definitely buy again.
