The Children's Train: A Novel Paperback – January 12, 2021

A lovely warm story about the human resilience.

The first person narrative immediately cements the reader to the character. The sequence of events are rarely predictable, keeping you in suspense for most of the book. I SO WANTEDthe classic good ending story, but I am still thinking about what the main character accomplished in his life and the sorrows that haunted him throughout it. So well written!

Based on a true events in post WWII Italy 7-year-old Amerigo lives in poverty with his mother in Naples. She arranges for him to go on the children’s train to northern Italy to live with a host family for the harsh winter where he finds love and a family he has never had. The story is strongest as told by the 7/8 year old Amerigo. Toward the end Amerigo returns to Naples as a 50ish year old man. That part of the story gets hard to follow at times as some events seem to skip around. But overall a great story!

Its a complex lifelong emotional journey from Naples to Modena for a little boy torn between Southern and Northern Italy after WWII. Excellent book.

I like books about WWII to read how ordinary people lived during the war. This boy was blessed to be welcomed by an entire family who provided good food, clothing and friendship as well as a means to earn a living an adult. He was drawn back to the farm with the he chance to visit his friends and express his gratitude.

Story very different taking place in Italy The children’s train gave them a chance to survive the horrors of war harsh winter and lack of food. Very different issue never told before Cried. Several times feeling the emotions!! It touched my heart. Wont forget ; this book when finished made me sad But so happy I had a chance to read it and understand what families went through

Vivid descriptions of life in the South and North create the story of a little boy. Two different worlds that create emotions so very strong.
