Ugly Stik GX2 Spinning Rod

My first catch was a 7 pound catfish, it was a great fight and tasted delicious

i really love this brand of rods , i wish they still made the Shakespeare 702med. 7 footer, this is the replacement of that rod, the only different with the 702 med, to the GX2 med is 4#s different in the line rating the 7footer is rated for 6-15 # , and 1 more is med. heavy 8-20/ ? i did an experiment to the 2 pc. rods, in the front half of the tube i spray a 2 part foam onto the rod holding the opening forcing the foam to go forward to the tip, then listen to the foam pass gas , then released the thhole opening til it hardened up . did the same to the lower half of the rod, let it harden then capped both ends with an #2 pencil eraser to plug the holes super gluing it to the erasers, let dry, the next morning went fishing, caught a 3# trout on the line , the rod had still the fast action on the tip but smooth!, it bent at the 4 th eye and forward making the rod have more backbone in pulling on the fish, . i think in time that this should cure the problems that i see with rods breaking , the ugly stick is dam near hard as hell to break , but did the same to a Goture rod, and it improved the preformance of the rod 100%, . the Goture rod are said the break easy , i dont think so?. will update in 3 months from now,. i notified Goture rods and told them what I did to the rod, and therenow in the starting stage now , testing the rods with the spray foam in the rods. . they also offered me a job to help out with the experiments of the construction. im taking it,?

Great rod! No complaints. I went with the two-piece version for accessibility. I drive a sedan car that normally a full 7 foot rod couldn’t fit inside/ stored. I was recommended this rod for a good all around rod to have. With already the understanding that ugly stick is extremely reliable rod. I am using for mainly inshore and lake fishing. I am satisfied with the purchase and have already recommended to other friends. Happy fishing!

Revised post for repeat purchase 9/17/24 We bought 2 more but this time ordered the the "medium heavy duty". These are just like the original medium duty ordered ages ago. Much sturdier than the medium duty ones we complained about last year. The medium heavy duty ones we just received are excellent. However, they arrived without any protective box at all. They were set completely unprotected by anything except flimsy clear plastic bags. As a result, a couple of the guides were bent. Rods were good but shipping was awful. ========== Original post below =========== My wife has a GX2 we bought several years ago and use heavily on the pier. It is holding up well so I thought I'd buy another. The GX2 we just received is a different animal. It is quite a bit thinner and the guides are of a different style. Our old GX2 had guides with legs that go both up and down the rod. The rods we just receive have flimsy looking guides that only have one leg. Update: Apparently, although the new GX2 says medium action, it is in reality light or light medium. I just went to a local store and bought a medium heavy GX2 which looks the same as our old medium gx2. Apparently fishing rods are doing the same thing as 15 oz pound foods.

I don’t write reviews without using a product but I have casted with this rod a couple hundred times now and I really love this ugly stick rod. It does have some to do with the reel but it casts my lure about 60 to 70 feet. I can feel the bite and have caught a few nice bluegill with it. When I need more rods like an ultralight I will buy another one for sure. Recommend highly.

I always go back to a Uglystik. This is my favorite stick and I always buy one just to have at the different locations I go to fish. It is easy to put together and the quality is great. It doesn’t want to break. It comfortable to hold and you can’t beat the price for a forever item.

I like how durable this rod is and how sensitive at the same time. I caught a carp that was 13 lbs and the bat eagle ray was 11 and they pulled my drag a little at 39 lbs. by the time I tightened it all the way. The rod was at a 90 degree angle while trying to get those in too. So I’m pretty impressed at how much they can flex and I’m sure it can handle bigger fish. But even though these can catch some decent sized fish, you can still fish for bluegills with these. Just recently I caught my smallest leopard shark with it just because I can feel it nibbling away. I definitely recommend buying this if you want to fish in ponds, lakes, streams, rivers and piers. I rigged mine up on a fish finder rig while using 50 lbs braided line and 18” steel leader line or I’ll use 50 lbs mono as leader if I know there’s no sharks around. While the 2 months I’ve had this pole I’ve been trying to land a monster but so far just the medium and small fish. I’ll update once I do.

Bought this 2 piece rod for a travel trip. It worked well paired with a good reel and had no issues. Honestly did not expect super feel for that price but was better than expected. Really wanted the 2 piece aspect and tough enough to toss in the travel case and it was great. Really can’t beat the price to value ration of this.

For any angler this rod is man made wonder. Be it class, quality, budget, handling, sensitivity or build it excels every parameter. Must buy.

Me ha llegado perfectamente nada de anillas rotas ni nada como he visto en algun comentario… .es una caña estupenda para su precio, he cogido la de 7 ft que mide 2.13 metros perfecta para spinnig desde costa y aparte de sensible en las picadas es muy muy resistente no se le puede pedir mas… muy recomendable
