Wax is far too difficult to apply and then remove from your hands, gel is not strong enough and looks too shiny. This is the perfect inbetween in my opinion. Very easy to apply, makes a strong hold, and looks like you've got nothing in your hair at all. I've also noticed when I wake up the next day after wearing it, my hair is still sort of in place (not completely, but enoough that my bangs stay up).
