Good filter
Great filter! I had 1 that my plumber installed and it lasted over a year. The water still tasted fine but I was a little concerned after the 1 year mark so I replaced it. Removal and installation of the filter were relatively easy. The price does seem like a lot at first glance but if you divide it over 12 months, it's more affordable than bottled water or Pur filters. FILTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION TIPS Several notes on installation: 1) Put a bucket or a large towel under the filter to catch any water drips from the filter when removing the old and installing the new filter. 2) Push the filter fully into the housing and then turn it counter-clockwise until it locks. (Judge the amount of twist based on how much it took you to untwist the old filter.) Be sure to click on the latch before turning on the water. I did not twist the cartridge enough and had a little flood after I turned on the filter. Make sure you run the filter for 15 minutes to flush out any trapped air and residue. Put a label with the installation date so you remember to change the filter before 12 months have passed. I also have trouble removing the filter from the housing. I was advised to use a strap wrench to have more leverage and add some silicone-based o-ring lubricant around the threads to reduce the friction and prevent o-ring from bunching up. The strap wrench worked and I was able to remove the old filter. We were concerned about using a non-food grade silicone lubricant so we used a bit of vegetable oil instead. Hope these tips will help you. NOTE ABOUT THE CHEAPER BUT INTERIOR S-104 FILTER - AVOID AT ALL COST! I initially replaced my H-104 filter with the S-104 to save $10. According to the specs, the only difference is the H-104 reduces lime and scales but all of the filtration specs is the same for both filters. THIS WAS A MISTAKE! 6 months later, the water tasted worse than unfiltered water. So, I called Everpure to trouble-shoot. I was told that I need to replace the filter as it is likely "full" and thus not filtering properly (eventhough there is no change in the flow). How is that possible since the old H-104 had lasted over a year with the same water usage pattern??? So, I asked whether there is any warranty for this issue as the filter is supposed to last about a year and it's non-operational after 6 months. I was told there is no warranty for the longevity of the filter. So, in saving $10, I wasted $50. This is a raw deal for a seemingly more economical option. Do not buy the S-104 filter!
