How much longer is the larg tall from the large? Is that the only difference?

Our tall sizes add 2 inches to the overall length and 2 inches to the sleeve length.

I think an XL would work for you. They are very true to size. If you like a little more room you could go up a size.

Anybody have experience motorcycle riding with this hoodie in 30 degree weather?

It's a tight weave and keeps out the wind that I've experienced. The hood could be just a bit bigger but is fine for general wear. Weather you find this comfortable or not kind of depends on your tolerance to cold no?
