The machine does require you to change the filter all too often and to do so is not cheap. However, keeping the filter changed per the recommendation does obviously keep the water pure.

This is ONE FILTER, not 5 Filters as listed. The description is mislabeled. Note 3 pack is around $70 not what is stated above in the Q and a. Retail for one at jura is $25.
