The covers protect the lock from the dust, pollen and rain, and eventually the strap breaks, having these to replace the broken ones is preventative maintenance, and saves from having to replace the more expensive security lock.

I live in FL, and have accordion style hurricane shutters that have a small lock on them. The dust covers (HV) last maybe two or three years before they become brittle and break apart. Locks here get brutalized by the environment, so they need to have these covers on them. (I’ve just had to replace two exterior door lock sets after only seven years because they are both corroded and I cannot get a key into them anymore…and yes, I tried a number of products and nothing worked.) So I needed a supply of replacement covers for the shutter locks, and these fit the bill. They are snug to put on, and stay closed.

Living in Florida, finally upgraded the whole house to accordion hurricane shutters . Older shutters needed new covers for the locks...new installer didn't have them, couldn't get them....yada, yada, yada...Amazon had them!

Seems like good quality plastic. We used them to put on the locks of our accordion hurricane shutters, to keep dirt and rain out of them. So far so good.

I was able to convince the open ring part on to the lock base but the cap would not stay on the stainless part of the shutter lock. I found that if I allowed the cover to be pushed on firmly, the actual lock cylinder would depress a bit. I home this additional forced compression will not accellerate aging on the spring compression on the lock on the shutter.
