Is this normal for the first time or do I need to return my pan?** A: It is common for new cast iron (even pre-seasoned) to have sticking issues. Just use a little more oil and butter when cooking your steaks and it will slowly build up more of a tolerance over time. Also, make sure the pan is hot before putting oil in, and especially any steaks. I have a glass top electric stove so I let the pan heat up for about 15 minutes before adding oil and butter. It starts at about 625 degrees, but after adding oil and butter, it cools to about 450. Then I add the steak after the butter melts, and I don't have any sticking issues at all. I use very coarse sea salt and oil to clean the pan, and then flax seed oil to re-season after. I turn the burner on high and let the pan sit there until it starts smoking and then turn off the burner and let it cool for a few hours (or even overnight) before putting it back in the cabinet. Hope this helps. **Q: Has anyone used this for camping? What was your experience with it?** A: I use it when we car/tent camped. Can do a lot with this combo. I use it to fry and bake (as a dutch oven) I even used it as a bean pot to make baked beans. At night, put it in a hole with the coals and cover it with dirt....by morning the beans are ready... It is now my RV prime cooking utensil. Together they're like, about 20 or so.
