My Sewing Machine Book: A Step-by-Step Beginner's Guide

If I could give this book 10 stars I would. The colour, illustrations and instructions are amazing. This book is so inspiring! I originally bought two for my step daughters for Christmas last week and have since bought another one for myself. I teach fashion and textiles and find adults books quite boring, but this book is vibrant and exciting. Everything is simply explained and in detail for all beginner sewers! A true delight and amazing value for money. Best purchase this year! Wide range of sewing projects to get started.

I bought this book for my seven year old daughter and me to learn to use the sewing machine she got for Christmas. I am not a sewer and did not know how to use a machine. This book is clear and well-explained. The projects are attractive, often useful and quick to make, and both my daughter and I have now got the sewing bug! There are some lovely projects and the lessons learnt through following the patterns, have given both of us confidence to make (very simple) things without a pattern. I now understand the basics of a sewing machine and am thrilled that my daughter was able to get making things so quickly and easily and with so much success. I was worried that she might be turned off by how hard it was to get used to the machine but the patterns here have allowed her to have great results in quick time! Recommended!

Bought as present for my 9 year old together with a child's sewing machine. The book is very detailed with well laid out and simple instructions, which are easy to follow. The illustrations are fab and make looking through the book a joy. Delighted with this purchase, as always DK deliver great books for all ages.

I think this is a fantastic compendium for beginners to sewing with a machine. I bought it for my daughter who received her 1st machine this Christmas. We’ve enjoyed reading through all the information about your machine and how to sew at the start and she has made her first cushion. I’m self taught and it has cleared up a few things I hadn’t learnt and i’m Learning new tricks and techniques. Highly recommended.

Great book for beginners. Was concerned aimed at children but perfect for me as I have never successfully used a sewing machine and pictured helped me understand the basics as well as some easy projects to practice. Would be perfect for older children or someone like me who has never tried sewing machine before and learns through reviewing pictures.
