A great classic for strategy lovers!
A classic game!! Needs strategy as well as luck to win! Isn't solely based on luck as some people say.. It is great fun when you have equally enthusiastic people playing, because it is a LONG game. It can go on for even days if you go for an absolute victory. Obviously you can shorten it if need be. Still remains fun!

Not exactly the same Risk, but still fun
An game of global domination. Put your troops in the different territories, fight it out for control of the map and eventually ruin all your personal relationships. To my surprise, there were a few differences in this version of Risk from the classic version I remembered growing up:1) No more objective/mission cards that you could complete for rewards.2) The reinforcement system has changed. You used to need to collect either a set of the same cards (or three different cards) and then change them in for a growing number of armies. Now the cards can be turned in at any given time, and have an associated star value which determines your reinforcement amount. No more getting 15+ extra troops every time you turned in a set. While the changes seemed a bit disappointing at first, we eventually settled into them and found that they (well, the reinforcement one) made the game more enjoyable and fair to play.Overall, a great game. It isn't the classic Risk, but it is still Risk.

Not the same game but still fun all the same
After reading all of the negative reviews I decided to write one of my own.First, it's not the same game. After learning the rules and playing a few times I can say it is fun. To many people try to compare it to the old game and it isn't that game. Still it is fun just the same. The major differences is reinforcements. As has been said, the cards now use stars that can be exchanged for reinforcements. Reinforcements are much harder to obtain. So gone are the days of massive army vs. massive army. The game still requires strategy and in some cases more so than the original. The cards are a bit flimsy but if proper care is taken these will be fine.Last weekend I played with my dad and brother which I haven't done since I was a kid. It was a blast. All in all, on it's own merits, this is a very fun game - but it is very different from the original. But, since the map is the same (a little bigger) you can easily play with the old cards and old rules.Oh, and for those complaining that this does not have the objective cards - objects cards were not included in the original game of Risk. These came later. Just enjoy the game for what it is.
