Great tips!
Great guidance for parents that have tweens & teens. We may know most of these topics but the tips on HOW to start these conversations and when to wrap things up, are great reminders.

Excellent read with practical advice
This is a great resource for parents of middle-schoolers; well written with easy-to-find chapter recaps when you want to revisit the information. Practical advice and examples given of how to have tough conversations.

Tough read
Found it hard to get through sometimes just too much talk...id rather just get to the point and not repeat things. Great topics and insightful

Psst...it works great for older kids, too!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! It's not just the substance of these talks, but the tools she gives you to HAVE these conversations. Her "BRIEF" format works extremely well for kids of ALL ages (okay, and full-fledge grownups, too!) Begin peacefully, Relate, Interview, Echo back what you hear, & THEN give Feedback. This is very much like motivational interviewing, a technique physicians & other clinicians use with our patients that is extremely effective because the answers end up coming from the person with the problem, rather than a top-down edict from you. As a family physician & teen health expert, I cannot recommend this book strongly enough!
