Phil Harding Club Mixes of the 80s / Various

Phil Harding is most often linked to remixes of dozens of Stock Aitken Waterman productions. A few of those productions are here, but a large number of these mixes are strictly focused on the fact that Phil Harding remixed them, so they are not all SAW productions. That also means not all of them have that Hi-NRG sound--some are actually downtempo. What you do get is plenty of 12" mixes that have never been on CD before. Therefore, there's a glaring inclusion of the murder mix of Dead or Alive -it has been on DOZENS of compilations. But, it is indeed one of Harding's shining moments, so it really had to be featured here.Really though, the other rarities are the reason to get this disc. New versions of classics by Diana Ross, The Jackson 5, and the Four Tops are big highlights, as are the numerous unreleased Rick Astley tracks. Harding's mix of the hugely popular Never Gonna Give You Up is something I was thrilled about, but actually, it's not all that impressive a mix--I expected it to have a harder sound, but it's actually softer than the hit mixes. The other unreleased astley songs are fun, but they all sound mostly like demos--both the musical arrangement and Astley's voice. If you ARE looking for that SAW sound and hi-nrg tracks, there are plenty of them on disc 2, my favorites being Oxygen, I Need More (the vocals sound like a cross between Pete Burns and Divine), and The Upstroke. This is AWESOME!! :) I've been looking for some of these tracks FOREVER, and could either not find them or only get them on vinyl! The sound quailty is great and the track selections are fantastic! A great slice of 80's dance music - plus some rare Rick Astley unreleased tracks as a bonus! Now when will we be getting a second compilation or something from other PWL remixers?? By the way, I know there is a companion book to this, but the liner notes are realy fasinating!... even though you need a magnifying glass to read them! Could the font be any smaller?!...

After listening to this recording,I imediately went to Amazon to see if Phil Harding has any more recordings out.Unfortunately I couldn't find any. This is an outstanding mix!!!!!!

Excellent collection of rare mixes, great sound quality.. Phil Harding Club Mixes of the 80s  I would suggest this CD. A great blast from the past, yet very current.

The sound quality of this x2 album is just amazing! It's been remastered in 24Bit! The 2CD Set comes with a x16 page glossy booklet, with loads of background information; technical remixing details and colour photos of each release.Technically this is a great collection and Phil Harding and the Cherry Pop team score 10/10 for producing this.Musically - although most of these track were remixed at PWL, they sound hollow and lack the 'magic, glitter & stars' of pure Stock Aitken & Waterman productions.They are not Stock Aitken Waterman quality productions, and sound mostly like misses than hits (underground club hits at best)It's an interesting vintage collection. Sonically near perfect.Production wise, if the "Phil Harding" mix of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" were released as back in 1987, it would NOT have been a hit. The 'magic, glitter & stars' of a pure Stock Aitken & Waterman production is 100% missing.Stock Aitken & Waterman some how created a world of musical extasy in their records. They made perfect pop records!

８０年代PWL のミキサーとして活躍したPhil Harding のMIXバージョン集です。８０年代復刻レーベルCherry Pop からリリースされました。Eighth Wonder 、Rick Astley 、Pepsi & Shirlie 、Blow Monkeys 、Sinittaなどなど、貴重で珍しいロングバージョンがてんこ盛りで楽しめます。今回一番のボクの目玉は、Blue Mercedes です。Blue Mercedes 自体のCDが入手困難な折、彼らの名曲I Want To Be Your Property を聴くことができます。しかもオリジナルより遥かにカッコイイ乗り乗りのバージョンで！！この一曲のためだけでも価値あるコンピCDだと思いますよ。もちろん音質も最高です。８０年代ディスコマニア、８０’ｓファンはぜひとも入手しましょう！！

Love this cd release! I must the biggest (pleasant) suprise was the 10" version of I'm not scared! It's amazing and cannot understand why this wasn't chosen as the official 12" version in 1988! The 12" of the Blow Monkeys and Four Tops are another two which i am very happy to have in such awesome sound quality! Thank you mr. Phil Harding, hoping there will be more of the same coming from you, maybe some obscure Hazell Dean mixes in the vault somewhere? ;-)
