Victorinox Quality.
Great urban / gentleman’s EDC. Has all of the basics I need with nothing I don’t. The size is perfect, as it’s small enough to carry, but the blade a scissors are large enough to be super-capable. The Alox scales are just so much more durable than the normal SAK plastic ones. A little heavier though. Love it so far.

Quality knife.
Very well designed knife. An upgraded line of knives from Victorinox. Knife is of good quality and holds various handy tools depending on the model of knife you choose. I also ordered a fob and a nylon case for it.

Awesome Alox Knife
This is my second Swiss Army knife (first is the rambler, also an awesome knife!). The pioneer x has everything you need and more. Scissors work amazing. The knife is sharp out the box. The awl is awlmazing for opening packages and punching holes. Feels sturdy and dependable. My only small complaint is that the tools are very hard to open when new, but they’ve slowly been loosening up.

Pioneer X is the ultimate SAK design!
Best Swiss Army Knife design! Ultimate quality! Really cannot beat the value of knife you get for the price! It has everything you need. Great scissors, good size blade, can/bottle openers, and a leather awl (great for opening packages or use as a smaller blade). The alox scales are super high quality too. If you’re only looking for one SAK, this is the model to get!

Not disappointed, nice knife
Everything I need without going overboard. I do have others with more should the need arise. I did have to touch the edge of the blade up as it was not up to my standard, but all in all a good knife. I'm happy with it.

A "tank" in your pocket.
My first Victorinox SAK is a legacy item handed down from my dad. He got it as a gift in 1956. I watched him use it a gazillion times. Except for the scales looking muted red nowadays, it works and handles like new. Wow, right? So I now own 3 more of these things, my last purchase being this Alox Pioneer X. What attracted me was the small size ( I often carry a Champ) that would come in handy for carrying inside certain clothing options, and the alox scales coupled with the SCISSORS. Man, how did us humans live without scissors? OK, OK....the wheel was a good invention...but, ya know, cellophane and scissors, baby! My impression is this model seems nearly indestructable. SAKs are, in general, pretty much that way to begin with but the aluminum scales, that are riveted in place, brings this to another level. The tools have zero excess play in them and snap back and "lock" in place with authority. Allegedly the tools themselves are a bit thicker than usual SAKs. I can't confirm this ( never used a micrometer to test this) but to my eye it does appear so. Victorinox tools in general are so well made and tough that frankly this wouldn't matter too much. For me, you lookin' for a tool built like a tank that works as it is supposed too without adding bulk to your thin slacks or shorts, this one's for you.

Great knife
The Pioneer X Alox gets wonderful reviews. I love my SAK Compact, and wanted to get one for a friend, but I thought the Alox scales of the Pioneer might suit him a little better. When I compared the two knives, I had to go with the Compact simply because having only two layers makes it a little thinner and a little lighter. And I also like that the Compact has space in the scales for a few more tools - the "toothpick", tweezers, and pen. That said, if you don't need those tools and don't mind a slightly heavier knife, the Pioneer is a gorgeous knife with a lot of usefulness. It has both the traditional bottle- and can-opener with their flat-bladed screwdriver ends. Having the awl hinged on the end makes it much more useful than the center-hinged awls on other models. The scissors are, of course, legendary. My only quibble with the usefulness of the actual knife is that it can be hard to access the scissors - the three layers of tools at different heights can hide the thumbnail slot or put it so far down into the knife handle that it's hard to reach. Granted, that might have been the case only with the specific knife I had, or maybe the problem is me and my thumbnails!

Quite compact, I painted mine with some mat black nail polish to get it looking more like a black one with years of wear.

I’ve been a Swiss Army Knife fan for more years than I care to remember, and the Pioneer-X Alox makes a superb addition to the several SAK’s I already own. I wanted a knife for everyday pocket carry, with the proviso that it had to be fully legal within the UK, and that it met certain specific requirements regarding its tools. (Those being: - large blade, large scissors, large & small width screwdrivers, and reamer/awl). The Pioneer-X has all of those, (along with bottle opener, tin opener, & wire stripper, which I didn’t particularly need). The very nicely engineered Alox-ribbed scales set this apart from my other SAK’s, all of which have the traditional red scales. The construction of the knife can’t be faulted, every tool being crafted to perfection, with no play whatsoever when any given tool is opened out for use. The blade, (circa 63mm cutting edge length), came “hair-shaving” sharp, straight out of the box. – And I know from previous experience, that maintaining such a sharp edge on this, as with any other Swiss Army Knife, will be easily done. My one small quibble, (albeit that other users might want this particular feature), was the key ring attachment. – For my purposes, a key ring attachment wasn’t needed, and one such as this, which sticks out rather bluntly at one end of the knife was definitely not wanted, as it could conceivably, over time, damage the fabric of whatever pockets it was being carried in. – My solution was to carefully file it completely away, leaving no obvious traces that it was ever there in the first place! Some may consider a knife with an overall length dimension of 93mm, and which weighs in at 94.5grams, to be slightly on the large side for everyday pocket carry. However, as an EDC item with all the, (sufficiently durable), tools to fulfil my typical daily needs, (and without going down the road of carrying an “all-out” multi-tool), the Pioneer-X will be really hard to beat. Overall, (at £28.90 at time of writing this review), typical Victorinox quality, and well worth the money.
