How do you know when it’s done?

When using the PhoneSoap Basic you want to leave your device in for 10 minutes. Once that time is up, you may remove your item from the unit.

Does this heat the items inside? Can it affect soft materials?

It has not not affected the soft surfaces of my phone case over the past few years that I've owned it.

My charging cord has a short. How do I replace it?

Perhaps you can order it thru Amazon. Just the cord. Or from the PhoneSoap folks. You may be able to compare price at both. Keep in mind.... I have no experience in ordering that cord, and I am just speculating, based on what I would do.
