Alpha, Bravo, Charlie: The Complete Book of Nautical Codes

I bought this book for my 3.5 yr old who enjoys story time and picture books. I’ll also confess my love for Children’s books drove me to purchase this unusual title that covers topics like the NATO alphabet, Morse code and nautical flags (and their meanings), plus recent topics like quarantined or healthy ships. These communication methods are building blocks for language learning and feel kind of like learning a secret “code.” I am a jr. children’s book aficionado and I have never seen a title dedicated to this subject matter, so I knew we needed it for our library.I am so happy I purchased this! While my child doesn’t understand a fair amount of this book yet, he is enchanted by the graphic images (that even a newborn could appreciate) and likes to hear the stories behind each flag. The book is organized from A-Z, using the NATO alphabet, which I love because we have a pilot in the family who uses this terminology.The book was well-designed, with matte, saturated colors and a matte finished cover to stave off fingerprints. There’s one die cut page (see my photos) that is a fun surprise in the book. The back of the book features a glossary that’ll come in handy, too.I recommend this to anyone with a young child or children’s lit lover, like me.

This is the best basic, easy to read nautical flag and NATO phonetic alphabet book for all ages. Each flag is an entire colorful page, front and back, proceeded by a page with the flag letter, flag name and flag meaning, and followed by a page with the NATO phonetic name, the Morse code/ sound & light signal and semaphore (how to hold flags to signal). There is also elementary information about various types of ships.

I can’t say enough good things about this book! We are a boating family and thought this would be perfect for my son to learn more. This book has so much information. It tells you about flags, shows you the flags and how to communicate safety singles in both Morse code and light signals. What started out as a book for my sons room has become a staple in our living room. Adults love it and kids love it. It really is an exceptional book!

For any adult or child that loves boating - graphically wonderful, with just enough said to get the conversation going with a little one. One of my favorite children's books ever. The magic of symbols color, and code are all here.

I bought this book because of it's beautiful design. It is also really interesting and gives extra information about different vessels on each page. We read 1 page a night to our 4 year old son, who enjoyed it so immensly that we ordered it for his best pal, so they can write morse code messages to one another.

amazing graphics, facts and size

This book of colour graphics is dramatic and bold. The flags couldn't be clearer. Each nautical flag is page-size and there are many of them. Not only for children!
