Inspirational, Insightful and Philosophical
I loved philosophy in college, and I still love reading about philosophers now. The history of highlighted philosophers is especially appreciated in "Simply Philosophical Quotes" as it provides insight into their lives and their head-space. Also, the choice philosophers covered in this book are great. Descartes, Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Nietzche, Locke, Gautama, and others, are particularly and fundementally wise, and their perspectives on humanity, life, lessons, and the soul are impactful. Moreover, the overall thorough compilation of quotes contained within this book are extremely inspirational and though-provoking, which encourages the reader to go within and seek personal insight on matters of the soul.Immanuel Kant is a personal favorite of mine, and one of his quotes I especially like is, "Look closely. The Beautiful may be small."A quote by Guatemala that also resonates as a favorite is, "When you realize how perfect everything is you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky."I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed this book, but I will simply say it is a treasure trove of wisdom and perspective. I highly recommend this book for those who love quotes, inspiration, and philosophy. Well Done!

Fine for what it is, but it left me wanting more
Great book if you're looking for a handy reference of philosophical quotes. There is some great wisdom here, if you can wade through all of the quotes to find it and allow yourself the time to consider and meditate on these short statements. People who want more depth or any discussion of these ideas may be disappointed. This book delivers exactly what it promises: A collection of over 900 quotes from 10 of the best know philosophers of all time. Within that genre, the book is a perfect score. So why four stars and not five? The problem is not with the book, but with the genre. It is, essentially, a book of lists. The book is somewhat set apart by the short biographies and discussion of the main point of each philosopher's ideas; Kant's Categorical Imperative, Aristotle's virtues, Locke's classic liberalism, etc. The chapter template also includes short lists of facts about the life of the philosopher. But in each case, these annotations are extremely brief. The quotes themselves are presented with no commentary, with no running theme or connection between them. I appreciate the effort to organize these quotes, but the internet is full of lists of random quotes given with no context.Books like this are best read one line at a time with considerable thought and meditation on each line. At that rate, it would take 919 days to finish the book. I suspect that most people aren't going to do that. Most of us will read (or try to read) this in a few sittings, over a few days as they would any other book. That is a much larger chunk and is much more difficult to digest. A topical index so readers could compare the ideas of Confucius with, say, Plato on a given subject would be very helpful. This book would benefit from some discussion of the quotes, some context (beyond the few pages at the beginning of each chapter), and maybe a discussion about how these concepts play out in history or in real life. This, of course, would result in a much larger book which would discourage people from reading it. That's the problem of books of this nature. They are strong enough to capture your attention but too short to fully cover the topic. So - a good book for people who enjoy lists of generally profound statements. A handy resource for pithy statements. Maybe a good jumping off point for some discussions. But people who are looking for depth, insight, or even explanation of most of these concepts will be disappointed.

A book I would include in my daily dose of reflections
This book is a great refresher on the teachings of the great philosophers and delivers on its promise of a large collection of quotes by these great minds. Almost all of the references were sourced online, from scholarly articles to YouTube. The book would be a great companion for quotation-lovers as one could go back to the book and reflect on each quote after having read the entire collection.I could include this book in my dose of daily reflections. I would give it 4.5 stars as it is a good compilation of philosophers’ quotes, rounding to four stars as it can still be perfected with perhaps a final round of proofreading to fill in a missing word on few occasions.

I was always a fan of quotes. It's fantastic to get a strong insight presented in just a few words. This book presents quotes from 10 influential philosophers, such as Confucius, Socrates, or Aristotle, that you can use in daily life, business, or for greeting cards. I discovered a couple of great quotes in this book. In addition, each philosopher is introduced with a little biography. This is a recommended read for people who are into quotes, with a focus on insights and smart advice.

Timeless knowledge from great thinkers
Sometimes you don't want to wade through thick volumes of dry philosophical writing. In times like ours, getting a shot of inspiration right before your umpteenth zoom meeting is just the ticket. The title tells you exactly what you'll get with this to-the-point book: Philosophical Quotes. Best thought of as quotes or quotations from philosophers, you can see for yourself the thoughts of some of the wisest people in history. The editors arranged the quotes sequentially so if you don't like one that you read, the nest one it right there for you to consider. Descartes classic "I think therefore I am" is there, of course. But also this gem: :If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things."The only drawback is reading these quotes from history is going to make you want to get the original works. Fortunately, this digital store makes that easy ;-)
