Zen Doodle: Tons of Tangles

Originally bought this book and then put it away. What family doesn't have a budding artist or even a doodler? I also keep colored markers, Sharpies and pens put away. THEN on the day when my kids are whining about nothing to do .... bored .... or we are going to be in the car for a while, I drag out my hidden supply of fun things to do.With markers and this book, the challenge was to see who could be most creative in designing a new Tee-shirt. (Yes, I had hidden away supplies to print their designs on our ink jet printer and iron onto new Tee-shirts). And, the contest was on. This book provided lots of inspiration. Some of the Tangles in this book are done in color, but of course the goal is to find inspiration and then create an original. They had a great time working on the best design before scanning their design and then printing and making their Tee-shirts.This book was the start -- you don't need to be an accomplished artist to doodle and it is amazing what a book filled with potential inspirations can inspire you to do. Great buy that had led to some happy hours creating and learning about color.

I'm a china painter and my class decided to do a project with zentangles. I purchased this book after looking at images online. There are so many creative ideas in this book and they inspired me! My project is coming along nicely.. needs to be fired. Drawing the tangles is very soothing, simple, don't have to worry about brush strokes, just use my pen with the finest possible point and sure my paint and oil doesn't clog the nib. Such fun!

There are several reasons why I really like this book. The first is that it has a lot of drawings where I can see different designs and try them out. It does have some step by step, clear instructions on how to do a certain design on a tile, but I like all the different tangles and doodles and I like to just try them out on my own. This book could be for intermediate tanglers and beginners. I like to look at a big Zentangle and pick out the tangles that appeal to me and try them out. This doesn't have a step by step for every tangle. It does take apart some tiles and show you how the artist made them but it doesn't spend a lot of time on each individual tangle which is fine for me because I can try and duplicate most designs.There is a lot of inspiration in this book. When I tangle, I need a book or two to refer to. I can't seem to just sit down and find my own designs but if I have a book in front of me, I get tons of inspiration and ideas. I used to buy the Zentangle books that have a dozen or so pages with different step by step individual tangles but I stopped getting those because once you learn the design or tangle, you don't really need the book anymore. I began to buy larger books like this one that don't have lots of individual tangles, but lots of larger pieces where I can just learn from looking at them. I like looking at the larger complicated pieces and picking out tangles from them and creating my own.This is a large book with over 120 pages. There are tons of designs that are broken down and there are tons of images for me to get a lot of ideas from and that is why I like the larger more interesting Zentangle books. This is a very cool book that isn't going to bore me anytime soon. I really like it and find it's super versatile and interesting and will keep me quite busy. The only complaint I have regarding Zen Doodle is some of the art work looks like it was done quickly and lacks some detail. As a whole the book has some good ideas and inspiration.

I love the book. The designs are challenging and I like the format. I just finished the abstract design on page 41 and did it free handed with a .01 Micron without any pencil lines nor practice. I like working free handed. There's many designs that will be fun to do. It has minimal doodle steps, and that's fine with me. If you have some doodles experience, there's no problem creating all the fun doodles inside the designs. Great job!

The book is chocked full of beautiful ideas to get you started, however, there are a few tutorial pages that don't seem to match the original drawing. I'm not sure if the conversion to ebook didn't go as planned, or they were that way in the original paper book. It wasn't enough for me to take away from the rating. I'm definitely ready to start my own drawings! There's enough here that I think you'll enjoy it, too.

This book covers some interesting things but made me realize that we reached our limit on Zentangle publications awhile ago.

I have doodled for years and have in fact created some lovely artwork which I have sold in exhibitions, never knowing about the world of zentangles. This book has given me a huge collection of ideas for exhibition artwork, gift cards, framed presents and even fabric designs. Awesome.

This book is a collection of many of the best zen doodles out there. I, like many, have discovered the wonderful past time of Zen Tangling, or Zen Doodling, as termed here. I have many books in my collection and have just recently added this one. This book is full of new and interesting doodle patterns and creative ideas for new directions with your zen doodling. From my experience, most books recommend using the tiles or small squares (or circular mandalas) as a format. But this book goes beyond that and offers examples and ideas for many other shapes and sizes, as well as ideas for animals and themes, such as friendship and love. With so many books on this art form out there, I am always reluctant to purchase yet one more, thinking, "what can be new under the sun where zen tangle or zen doodles patterns are concerned." But I am glad I purchased this book. It will serve me well as I continue to explore the infinite possibilities of zen doodling.

C'est un des meilleurs livres que j'ai trouvé avec "The Great Zentangle Book" que j'avais acheté pour débuter.Dommage que tous ces livres n'existent pas en français !

Libro carino, ci sono idee carine dal quale prendere spunto, ma sinceramente mi aspettavo qualcosa di più significativo. Tutto sommato lo consulterò per eventuali lavori.

Very good book for learning zentangle art.

I love this book! There are tons of ideas to inspire the next project. A couple of the artists aren't that great, but most are fun and extremely creative. I'm having a blast, using some of the ideas as a jumping off place for new projects!If you love to tangle, you will love this book. It is mainly for people who are already familiar with the techniques, but even if you aren't, between this and online resources, you won't have any problems.
