I love this stuff. It is what makes the difference in my crawler track. Looks so good. Love it love it. Idk how it holds up to any kind of moisture but it’s amazing for my use.

Great Product — My Tarantula Loves It!
Initially, I purchased the Excavator’s Clay for my Australian Bearded Dragon enclosure. I was preparing to purchase an Australian Bearded Dragon, but I decided to hold off on the purchase; because, I’m seldom home; I’m an actor and travel a lot; hence, I used the Excavator’s Clay for my tarantula’s enclosure, and Arogog loves it!I have a Brachypelma Hamorii spiderling — he is about 2.5 years old and is about 2.2” DLS. His name is Arogog.I used coco-fibre, and he didn’t seem to like it all that much; because, I noticed he spent most of his time climbing and hanging out on the walls of his enclosure — Arogog is a desert tarantula, and I don’t recall seeing coco-fibre substrate in the desert; so, I used the Excavator’s Clay thinking it better replicates the substrate that’s more desert-like.The Excavator’s Clay is easy to use and mold when the proper amount of water is applied.Arogog has a big enclosure; hence, I used the entire 20-pound bag. I ordered the 10-pound bag in case I wanted to create additional structures for him.The total drying time for my Arogog’s enclosure was about three to four weeks at an internal temperature of 70-degrees Fahrenheit and 20-pounds of Excavator’s Clay.I used part of the Excavator’s Clay without water, and it is like loose sand you might find at a desert.Another awesome feature of this product is that I can re-use it and re-shape it — just add the appropriate amount of water, and I can start from scratch.Arogog loves the Excavator’s Clay. He made his own den by digging a burrow under the fake plant I put in his enclosure — he feels safe, and he goes out more frequently for his exploration walks at night and early morning. He definitely prefers the Excavator’s Clay over the coco-fibre.Check 6!/s/ Alfonso Faustino

Great product!
Adding this product to my bearded dragons tank has made the world of difference when it comes to looks, crest, and being comfortable for my little lizard. It took more sand than I thought to create what I needed but this is a great idea for any reptile pet lover!

Diffcult to mix and shape, but okay
I'm not sure I'd purchase this again, but it wasn't a bad product. Just very difficult to mix by hand (and honestly, probably even more difficult with a tool), the results weren't quite what I was hoping for, and also took a lot of effort, but bearing that all in mind - this could work well for someone willing to put IN the work of scaping properly.

It's not that hard...
I used cork tubes to build a base for tunnels and then coated it with clay wet till thick. I made some goopy wet and poured that to creat a smooth finish and covered with dessert sand. I then baked it under heat lamps until it hardened and cracked like a real dessert floor. I think if you let it dry at room temp it may not crack, but not sure. You can always fill in the cracks. Looks great and my lizard loves his new home.

Still Good Stuff
I use this product for my tortoise habitat. I wanted some caves and mounds for him to get up to the correct distance from his basking light. Once you are familiar with the consistency of "mud" you need for the type of landscape you want to build it's a piece of cake to sculpt exactly what you want. The hardest thing for me is keeping my tortoise off of a freshly made mound when I feel like changing things up or adding a new place for him to explore. Have never had a problem/difficulty cleaning existing builds, or rehydrating old segments to add on new pieces or completely start over. When this stuff dries it is solid and sturdy as long as you put enough support in the sides.

Excavator clay is part of my best substrate mix. Why is it so hard to find?
I love this stuff I wish it was easy to find like that crappy calcium sand which is everywhere. Lots of uses for my herp homes. If you want an easy no maintenance substrate this so not for you though. I also mix it with sand and eco earth to make it more natural and diggable.

Dangerous substrate - would recommend not risking it
I lost my buddy and beardie of 7+ years only a month or so after switching to this substrate, thinking I was doing something good for her, giving her something more like her natural habitat. But not long after, I felt like something was a little off with her, and not long after that, she became compacted in a way that the vet said was not going to be recoverable, and I took her home and lost her as she fell asleep on me one last time. As anyone who has lost a beardie knows, this is a devastating loss, and I can't help but blame myself because I do strongly believe that she would still be with me today if I didn't switch to this substrate. Heartbroken, I had to share this to anyone thinking about this product. It's not worth the risk. Don't do it. Hope my sad experience saves someone else from the same.

Works well and looks good. Add the water gradually to reduce the drying time

I recommend it.
It gives me less than I though for the size of my terrarium, I should have bought 2 bags of it. But anyways I really likes how it looks in my terrarium. I recommend it.
