Worth it!!! Can control which birds can use it!
At first I was not sure I would like this feeder until I got the full hang of it. Doves could get in there and squirrels to deplete the seed intended for Cardinals and such friends. But, after some experimenting with turning the lock at the top to get the top fairly close to the tray, I have the perfect bird feeder now (so, it is worth the money to me!). After I found just the right spacing, I walked into the house and turned around and a male Northern Cardinal (who must have been watching me), was there enjoying his food without being run out by larger birds and such! It works!!! How close did I put the two parts together just by turning the smart locking knob on top? 2" exactly: the picture I included is at the 2" spacing.

Great for ground feeders
Was trying to attract cardinals and was successful. Unfortunately the fat doves sat in the middle of the feeder and ate all the food so I had to lower the opening. Stopped bird feeding for now after hearing that it makes it easier for Hawks to swoop down and kill the songbirds. Cannot handle that.

Broken
It worked great until I went on vacation and something broke it. I contacted Droll Yankee to see if I could get missing parts. First told no work with Amazon. Amazon has given me a credit. I don't think I will buy again.

Poorly designed and overpriced
With the exception of the metal rod and one nut, all parts are plastic. Unless we were missing some parts, the assembly holding up the dome consisted of a collet insert, a collet knob, and an O ring to hold the dome up. We assembled it per the instructions and put it up. The dome slid down and covered the tray within 5 minutes. The O ring was insufficient to hold the dome up. We ended up wrapping the rod with electrical tape so that the rod diameter was larger than the hole in the collet knob. This could have been solved by the manufacturer by threading the rod all the way up instead of the bottom inch and adding a nut to the kit. I have noticed that the dome wobbles in the slightest breeze and seems to scare the birds. This thing is worth maybe $10 and took a month to get. Live and learn.

Good Cardinal type feeder from a GREAT company
Great company, good feeder. This feeder is basically the 'Dorothy's Cardinal Feeder' with a flattened cover versus the large dome cover. The good news is, Cardinals and other ground feeder birds love it, and it isn't as bulky as the Dorothy Cardinal Feeder. It also has the new protector adjustment mechanism which makes it very easy to raise or lower the top cover. Works great hanging or on a pole with the optional pole adaptor. The top protective cover is larger than the tray, which helps protect the seed from rain. Nice. The bad news is it has the same plastic part that holds the nut that the hanger screws into. This piece failed (the nut stripped out the plastic holder) on my Dorothy's Cardinal Feeder, even though it was the first time I took the feeder completely apart for cleaning. Droll Yankee immediately sent me a replacement part, no questions asked, based on a simple email to the company with my name and address (very impressive). So, even though this part should be made out of metal, the company will cover any problem quickly and for no cost if it does fail. All in all, this new feeder performs the same function as the Dorothy's Cardinal Feeder in a smaller and better looking format. If they would change that plastic connector to metal, or at least put a metal sleeve to keep it from stripping out, I would give this feeder five stars. Of course, the birds seem to give it 5 stars, which is the most important rating!

1 year later, still going strong
I have had this birdfeeder for one year now, bought two of them and they hang on a pole side-by-side and the birds never stop coming to feed. I changed from a different feeder due to squirrel problems, squirrel can’t get to this one. I’m very happy with my purchase and I’m considering adding a couple more. The design is smart, being able to raise or lower the dome cover gives you the ability to keep out larger birds if you wish to feed only smaller ones.

Very well designed and sturdily built.
Very well made.I've gone through several cheaper, covered tray style feeders in the last two years, one of which lasted only about four months before breaking. They all broke at the base, where the suspension rod screwed into a metal nut which is imbedded in the tray. This design eliminates that weak point, and while I've only had the oldest of those I bought hung for three months, I'm confident this feeder will last years.I also like the easily adjustable height of the rain shroud.Very nice.

Great covered bird feeder
We have hung this on a pulley clothesline between our home and a tree - the cover is just the right height and diameter to keep the squirrels and larger birds out

Nice covered feeder
Birds love it. I love how it protects the seeds from getting wet.
