I have used this cable in my car's stereo USB input. One Type A connector was plugged into the USB port and the other connector to a cigarette lighter USB power adapter. The USB device was a 320 GB 9mm, 2.5" hard drive. This cable should work fine for you as long as your device or computer's PORT provides ample power. However, there are two USB A type connectors in case a single port is underpowered.
