We purchased this trashcan with good faith in its description of 'prevents pets from accessing trash' and that the 'lid stays shut even when tipped over.' Both of which were stated in the item description.We were very disappointed to come home to find out that the trashcan does neither. From simply and gently tipping it over, the lid pops off very easily and our dog can easily access the garbage. Not only is this frustrating to clean up, we were fortunate that our dog didn't consume anything toxic.Needless to say we were very disappointed in this product and wouldn't recommend this to anyone who has dogs.

I really like these trash cans. I use one for garbage and the other for recycling. They look nice, are easy to clean and hold a lot. The locking mechanism is nearly impossible to engage and after feeling like I wanted to take them outside and beat them with a hammer, I gave up. I have two little dogs who can’t get into them anyway. They serve the purpose I bought them for but if you have weak, sissy hands like me, don’t buy them for the locks.

This works amazing! The design makes it impossible for my dogs to open the lid even when I don’t lock the lid. I think the lock ensures the lid stays closed when dogs tip the can over, but my dogs don’t do that so I only use the lock when I want to make it extra safe. It is shallow so you can only use tips of your finger to grab the knob. It might be hard to turn if you have arthritis or weak fingers. But as I wrote earlier, it’s hardly necessary to actually lock the lid, so that has not been a big issue for me. I highly recommend this.

We spent the last 4 years suspending our trash out the reach of our bloodhound. On a whim, I ordered this set of cans. GAME CHANGER! We now get to throw away our trash like normal people. Our dog tried to gain entry a couple times and found it to be an exercise in futility. Highly recommend!

Great product. Nice simple design.Tip: if the lock mechanism is tight, just spray a little WD40 to the inside of it and it will loosen up and work smoothly.

I got this set of two trash cans to replace the standard set we had in the kitchen. I have a very food-oriented cat who is constantly on the prowl for snacks and over the past few months had figured out that he can knock over the trash can and help himself to whatever delicious garbage he finds there. It was a non-stop problem; I’d pick all the trash up and then there Max would be a moment after, dumping it all to the ground again to go after some plastic that briefly touched some ground beef. It was becoming not only a hazard to his health but stains from the trash were ruining our flooring. Finally I had enough and bought these cans and the experience has been great.Max has done his best to outsmart these new cans but his efforts have gone without reward. He knocked over the new can almost immediately and the lid stayed firmly in place. I’ve had it for a few weeks now and his attempts at getting into the trash have finally stopped because he can’t manage to get anything out of the cans. The lid also prevents the odor of the trash from getting into the surrounding area, so it doesn’t stink up your kitchen and your pets ability to smell it is limited.I rated these cans five stars because they do what they say they will do and they do it well. HOWEVER, there are some drawbacks that I will not take points off of for because they depend on the user. Here they are:The whole lid can be difficult to get attached to the can for the first time if you don’t have a bit of strength. Instead of sitting on top of the can, the lid is attached by a hinge in the back. The product does not come in one piece so you have to attach the lid to the body of the can by pushing the hinge into place. This prevents the lid from falling off. I had a hard time getting the lids on and needed help from a second person. Once they’re on, though, all you have to do is pull the lid up from the front under the rim when you are ready to pull the bag out. Careful not to drape the bag over the hinge, though, because it will prevent the lid from opening properly and it will tear up the bag.The locking mechanism on the top of the lid serves its purpose but it is a little difficult to turn due to how small the handle is. If the handle were taller and had a loop to put your fingers through, it would be less difficult, but unfortunately it is as it is. If you have to keep the lid locked at all times to prevent pets and children from getting in and you have to deal with the lock every time you go to toss away a finger bandage or a paper towel, it might be more of a struggle for you. For that reason, I would not recommend this product for seniors or anyone with arthritis or other conditions that affect their hands.For everyone else, this is a great solution if you have a garbage-diving cat.

We mainly got these trash cans for our toddler, who loves to come plowing through our kitchen knocking the trash can over and thinks everything (including his toys) needs to be thrown away. These are perfect! Locks easy, opens easily with the foot pedal, and they've never opened when locked no matter how hard of an accidental fall they've taken! Would definitely reccomend!

I have a large breed puppy who is quite crazy and stubborn and hasn't learned very good house manners yet. Despite puppy proofing my home, I had to start putting my garbage can up on the counter so he wouldn't get into it. I bought this, and it's dog proof! I followed the tips in the reviews, not looping the plastic bag over the back part, and making sure the lid snaps on tight, and he hasn't been able to get into this, though he has tried. Cuts down on odors too! I used the second bin for dog food since it was too large for my bathroom. It is one less thing to worry about. I love it!
