Most accurate colors available at a bargain price
I've been using Dell flat panel monitors for quite a while now. My first was a Dell 2005FPW, which I now use as a secondary monitor. I have Dell 2209's and 2210's at work, and have previously used 2207's. Each monitor has been incrementally better than the previous, but these IPS LED panels are more than an incremental improvement. The backlighting is remarkably even for this price point, colors are accurate and consistent without being overly (and unrealistically) vibrant, and the U2312HM has all the connectors you expect from a monitor these days. Being a very picky, almost videophile user, I found the on-screen controls to be a bit lacking, but far beyond my Acer 24" LED (my one and only foray into Acer monitors because it was terrible). I used the Lagom calibration website (http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/) and the on-screen controls to get the monitor as close as I could to perfectly calibrated, then ran through the site again with the NVidia software to dial the screen the rest of the way in to perfect. It was far less time-consuming than when I did the same with my Acer, and was slightly faster than doing it with my old Dell 2005FPW (thanks to more robust on-screen controls making the second pass much quicker). Once dialed in, this monitor is really beautiful. As I mentioned before, this monitor replaced a truly terrible Acer 24" LED and the difference when playing games is tremendous. Darker games like Diablo 3 don't wash out as the LED backlight is even and not excessively bright. More colorful games like Super Hexagon really pop, adding new dimension to some of my older games (Assassin's Creed never looked this good on my old Dell or the Acer). Ghosting doesn't appear to be much of an issue with this monitor, though I'm coming from a truly terrible monitor that ghosted like crazy, so I may not be the best source for that. As I also use this monitor as my primary monitor when telecommuting, text quality is also very important to me. I use Visual Studio and Eclipse on a daily basis, and have fairly bright text on a black background in both IDEs. I've found that this reduces eye strain for me, and switching from the Acer, which blew out the black to a medium gray color, has further reduced eye strain. Black text on a white background, like most websites will probably use until we pry white backgrounds from their cold, dead hands, is more jarring but still crystal clear on this monitor. I don't personally use the monitor in portrait orientation, but many of my coworkers use theirs in that way. So good news for them, as this monitor's stand is actually tall enough to allow for that! I do use the rotation on the stand to easily plug in cables though, so it has utility beyond simply keeping the monitor in portrait orientation. My only observed flaws are pretty minor. The input selection is a little goofy, as the monitor doesn't have a dedicated input selection button like my old Dell 2005. Instead, source selection is opened when pressing either of the two lower buttons (directly above the power button) if the active source has no signal. If you have a signal on the active source, then you have to go through the main menu to the Input Source sub-menu and change it there. Seems like a lot of clicks to eliminate a single physical button. It's also stupid to me that the on-screen menu isn't consistent with what is opened when pressing buttons. All things considered though, it's a minor annoyance. Another minor annoyance to me is that the power button doesn't respond to quick presses. Every monitor I've ever owned does, so I've spent the last 15 years developing a habit of quickly tapping the power button on each monitor and my desktop when I walk away from my desk for the night. Unfortunately, that has led to this monitor being left in Sleep Mode all night. Again, it's a minor annoyance, but I guess having this feature is good for some as it prevents someone from accidentally turning off their monitor in the middle of something important. tl;dr: Great monitor with even backlighting, excellent colors, adequate calibration capabilities built in, and plenty of connection types, all at a bargain price for its size. Given the price difference, I don't see the need to get those extra 120 lines for the 24" version. A must buy for anyone looking for a quality monitor at the $200 price range.

Just got it, wonderful monitor!
After my 7 year old monitor died last week, I found this one by reading reviews on Amazon and elsewhere. It came this afternoon. The hardest part of setting it up was getting it out of the box. I like to take things out gently, and store all the packing in the attic for future use. I appreciate the use of cardboard packing rather than a lot of molded foam (more environmentally friendly), but it's a very complicated 'origami,' and I finally tore up lots of tabs to get it out. After that, however, installation was a snap. The start-up directions are simple, and this monitor (and the sound bar I also purchased) showed a real consideration of efficiency and elegance in the design. I really appreciate that. I'm guessing that all the drivers are present in Windows 7 -- I didn't need to use the cd to get it going . . . everything worked perfectly. The screen looks great, colors are terrific - I do lots of digital photography so that's really important for me. I've been picking monitors for working in photoshop for years -- but this is my first Dell. The aspect ratio is great for having all the tools available, but still have enough space for the image to be large. It's pretty amazing to have this wonderful screen (image and size) for working on photos for such a reasonable price. The rotation is great! I love that I can turn it vertical (portrait) to look at documents. Finally, I love that there are USB ports on the monitor -- I had that on my last monitor and it was a big factor in my selection. So, while I've only had this monitor for about an hour, I love it.

Registration with Dell [Update]
I bought this monitor because it was an appropriate size for my desk and was listed at a good price. I had bought this after reading the review, "Registration With Dell!!!" on March 19, 2013, which gave the details on how to register the monitor for warranty. 145/148 people have found this review helpful. So once the monitor came in the mail, the first thing I wanted to do was register it will Dell. I purchased the monitor one year after that review and I had an extremely different experience. Firstly, all Dell monitors below 27" do not come with a service tag. This means you cannot register the product on Dell's website. It also limits the information that a Dell representative will ask from you... Per the review, I started by calling the (800) 624-9897 phone number. I talked to many Dell representatives (seemingly in India) about registering my Dell monitor. I got transferred to all different departments, sales, technical representatives, etc and was even "disconnected." I mentioned key words like, "Tag Team" or "Order Transfer" and still got nowhere. I got the run-around from them all and it was almost impossible to talk to a supervisor, manager, or anyone in charge. No matter who I requested, they were always unavailable. After about an hour of transfers and being put on hold, I was persistent to talk to a supervisor and ended up holding for another 30 minutes until a "supervisor" came to the phone. I was told by the supervisor that I needed a Dell Order Number to register my product for warranty. He said this number comes from Amazon, i.e. its the order number Amazon gets when they buy the monitors from Dell. This is not the same as the Amazon order number. So I called Amazon. They did not have this Dell order number (as they shouldn't) but offered to call Dell on my behalf. The Amazon representative called me back and also said they got the run-around from Dell representatives. They had never had this request before. The point the Amazon representative made: Dell doesn't request this information from you if buy it from BestBuy or Walmart, why are they requesting/requiring it from Amazon. I'm not sure Dell actually does require this order number, but instead, after my experience with Dell on the phone, it seems Dell would not want to warranty their monitor if bought from a reseller and will tell you anything to get you off the phone. Amazon representatives, who are known for great customer service, apologized for my trouble and I was able to send the monitor back to Amazon for free. With the guidance of representatives, I ended up choosing a similarly priced BenQ monitor that I am very happy with. I am also very happy with the Amazon customer service. I gave the dell monitor one star. While, the monitor worked and I had no problems with it for the 48 hours that I had it, I can't give it more than one star because of the warranty registration and terrible customer service. A product's warranty and a companies customer service are actually huge considerations for me when I buy a product. If Dell offers 3-year warranties on their product, they should honor their agreement. I'm guessing the 145/148 people who rated the Amazon review, primarily found it helpful because it simply listed *how* to register their product, but they were not actually attempting to register the product. There are similarly priced monitors with the same technology, this monitor is nothing special. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Forse guardando qualche video su you tube...

I am an artist with a degree, a first class hons degree in Fine Art Practice. This monitor is Excellent for the money. If you are really picky about color forget flat screens and see if you can still buy a top quality CRT Monitor. If you can find one it will cost you an arm and a leg. Don't forget that if you are enabling others to see your pretty pics on line the colors that they see and the nature of the whites will be very much influenced by the quality and settings of their monitors which are unlikely to be the same as yours. All our perceptions of color are subjective and the appearance of colors particularly whites is altered by colors immediately adjacent to them. If you doubt that get yourself a book by Johannes Itten called Elements of Color. This book is art college staple fare and with good reason.
